Highly unlikely. Generally it is not advantageous to have production in a war zone. So I just can't buy the story line.

And rare earths are not that rare in fact though economic deposits are more rare. The US can simply buy those elements.

In Australia, there is a company that was mining other stuff but came across rare earths and decided to stock pile them from the 1990's in case one day it was worth something, which I guess is now. There are other deposits as well. One in Dubbo is shovel ready with an estimated life of 20 years. There are more than those and we have about twice the reserves of China.

Some US people were out about Dubbo recently. Don't know in what way but I'd guess US EXIM since they are providing 600M USD finance for this mine.

The difficulty with rare earths is refining them in an environmentally tolerable way which is difficult because these elements have very similar chemistry.

An Australian company has a factory producing rare earth metal in Korea and they have been asked to replicate the factory in the US and currently the US state is being selected.

A China free supply chain has been being worked on under the AUKUS alliance for some time.

It is pretty important. There are 800 lbs of rare earth metals in a F35 and 8 ton in a Virgina class sub.

Overall the ore bodies are not the major problem. Metalization has been but that seems to be covered now. At least, a 5 year supply contract has been signed for a US magnet company.

So I'd say it is all happening folk without Ukraine.

Rare earth minerals are a bonus. Oligarchs and corporations like Blackrock are on Ukraine like jackals, buying up mining rights and farmland. Trump seems to be facilitating that.
And yes, the U. S. wants to prevent Russian access to Ukrainian resources, particularly wheat and produce. Ukraine use to be called "the breadbasket of Europe".

But I think the main motive for the U. S. was to rob Russia of Crimea, the Azov Sea, and its naval base in Sevastopol. Russia established that naval base in Sevastopol in 1783, the same year that the U. S. war of independence against England ended, five years before the U. S. constitution was ratified, and before there was a Ukraine. It is crucial to Russia's access to the Mediterranean Sea. Crimea, itself, speaks Russian and is closely aligned with Russia, culturally and economically.

But the Dr. Strangelove psychopaths who make U. S. foreign policy keep trying to destroy Russia by one means or another.

After the end of the cold war and fall of the Soviet Union, the U. S. and its NATO allies continued to treat Russia like an adversary, as if it was the USSR. They are intent on bankrupting it and breaking it up into small, independent countries that can be manipulated, controlled and plundered by the U. S., just like the U. S. is doing to Ukraine.

Rare earths in Ukraine are over hyped by media, lithium, titanium and graphite aren't that rare and those elements are always part of minerals. In which mineral particular element is enclosed determinate cost efficiency of mining. In Ukraine is cost efficiency low.
However Ukraine has a lot of Chernozem, very fertile and rare type of soil. I think this soil was interesting for western investors because grain is the gold of future. But Russia didn't allow Ukraine to get westernized, its economy could improve and could get richer. This would send wrong signals to other vassals of Russia.
When you're a bully that sits in cesspool you won't allow others to escape. This is Russian philosophy.

Very possible. The whole NATO expansion/ inclusion of Ukraine could have been just a decoy or a play to make Ukraine vulnerable and weak to for the USA to make the mineral deposits a bargaining chip as payment in exchange for arms supplies

USA/ CIA has a contiguous strategy playbook that dictates all foreign policies and interventions that are carried out regardless of who the president is. The playbook is given to the incoming president like a handover of a company's P&L and balance sheet to carry it forward without changing anything.

That is what Afghanistan war was, Iraq war was, Lybia war was and Syria war was. Everything from that playbook. 9/11 attacks were orchestrated (by Israel) to make an excuse for the USA to invade Iraq to overthrow Saddam. The WMD was a bullshit lie. And to invade Afghanistan for its opium worth billions. The War on Terror was also a lie. Osama used to work for the USA, he was on CIA payroll for years during the Soviet era.

In the same way it is possible that NATO expansion to include Ukraine could have been USA/CIA plan all along, to force Russia to attack so that Ukraine would become dependent on USA military aid and in exchange the USA strong arm Ukraine to give away their mineral deposits as payment.

Israel and CIA are the only terrorists in the world. There are no other terrorists, just victims forced to kill back.

No it was because of Putins ambition, ego, greed, nationalism, strategic concern about future conflicts etc. But the U. S. is definitely playing into his hands a lot. The U. S. has always exploited other countries for resources, people wouldn't even be to bothered by that. What's bothering people is that they're negotiating on behalf of Russia basically. They're not good faith actors. So that means basically Ukraine and Europe as a whole have to see them as enemies.

Europe needs to grow stronger and push back, that's the only way this can end without more trouble in the future. Or maybe once China becomes the most important country they will stop Russia from expanding further because they want to trade with Europe. I don't know but Europe needs better defense no matter what.

I just watched a video from a guy walking around in Ukraine today, very sad scenes. A missile landed near a playground between 2 apartment buildings and now the whole playground is filled with stuffed toys for the dead children. I'm sure J. D. Vance would call it a "propaganda tour"

I agree with Kayla in part. If you look at Ukraine and the previous leader; you will find that he was a Russian pawn. Anything Russia wanted from Ukraine, he was willing to let them have it. As long as the man who lead was approved by Russia, they were fine with leaving Ukraine alone. The minute the people elected a Ukrainian leader who was for the people and not Russia, it was time for war, so Russia could force him out, and put another puppet leader who would do Russia's bidding. Basically, before, it looked like they were free when the USSR broke up, but they were not since Russia had made sure that someone who agreed with them was in power. What happens in that theatre is a bit complex, with many nuances. Ukraine was a free country in its infancy several hundred years ago. Russia at the time was expansionist and wanted their natural resources to be used to make them rich; so they went and brought them into the USSR. These people have lived under their rule for a long time; when they finally got freedom, Russia made sure it was not real freedom, but the look of it. When they elected their current government, and sent the Russia representative home to Russia; Russia did not like that, because now they had no control over Ukraine.

Within days of the invasion Trump claimed he could end it in 24 Hours with a deal. How is that possible unless you've preplanned one with your pal Putin.

Russia has a vastly larger army. One that's considered a major threat to both all of Europe and the USA. So why didn't they just sweep across Ukraine in days? Was it because the plan wasn't to conquer all because some had to be left for the USA?

Trump has twice accused Ukraine of starting the war and is demanding half its minerals. Why? Because he wants to set a precedent that its OK for a large country to invade a small one. If Ukraine gives him half their minerals he'll invade Greenland then offer to make a deal for half their minerals and Denmarks to withdraw

Nope. Not even close. Obama/Biden are criminals. A big part of their operations is drug dealing and human trafficking... Ukraine happens to be the entrance point for heroin into European and American markets that is initially grown in Afghanistan. After the invasion of Afghanistan during the Obama/Biden administration, a blind eye was turned to poppy growing so that it could be funneled to Ukraine... Business boomed. No, where did you get this from? The war is an invasion by Russia to recoup territory that it (as USSR) lost when USSR ceased to exist in 1991. Putin wants to return Russia to its "glory days".

It's about the mineral wealth in the borders of Ukraine. Russia thought the US weren't bothered if it takes Crimea, to start with a viable option to quit IF no one does anything and no one did. No, minerals is only a part of what caused the war. There are many other factors such as NATO expansions and the 2014 coup that resulted in the slaughter of ethnic Russians. US/NATO basically turned Ukraine into another Iraq/Afghanistan so western corporations and defense contractors got a nice paycheck.
