How often do you really listen and understand the other side?

People will often ask outlandish questions like “Why would you support this politician who (did objectively bad thing)?” Or “Why does this party support (objectively incorrect thing)?” And I’m just wondering how often do you leave your echo chamber?

I am ALWAYS surrounded by differing opinions that I ALWAYS listen to before forming my views on anything ever

I try to give space for their ideas but a lot of it just doesn’t make sense to me

I don’t bother listening to them anymore, talking to them is like talking to a brick wall that screams when you’re not talking

Depends what kind of other side, depends on the distance between me and any other side, because there are several other sides. Being on the far-left of the spectrum, I can listen to moderate left, center, right. Traditional right would be my limit, in US terms I believe it may be... Republicans pre-Trump?

As soon as I hit the far-right though, I cannot stand it for long. Because the distance between our worldviews are just insane, I did it for some time until it became depressingly repetitive, it's always the same batch of conspiracy theories, fundamentalism, fear of media, fear of science, and so on. I can't deal with such worldviews, there is no room to chat about anything. It's just another galaxy I don't want to live in anymore, just like they wouldn't want to live in mine.

I can't believe everything i see and hear anymore because we have ai to fake crowds at rallies and stuff. I have to dig deep into the media to find the true truth and not the propoganda that the government wants to peddle to the people.
