I always find it interesting how many people answer the question, and totally ignore the details description.

I love Reagan's use of humour to make you think.

He's right. Why shouldn't someone become self employed to earn money by using the skills they have? Why should other people have to support them?

Remember, irrespective of which country you are in, your government is there to administer YOUR money in the form of taxation. No government actually does a damn thing to earn the cash they spend - WE DO.

Those fancy suits and million dollar cars and homes were paid for by YOUR taxes while YOU struggle to put food on your table and a roof over your head. With one exception - Trump refused to draw a salary for being President. I'm not saying I support everything he says and does, I just think it's important to consider who actually has what they honestly believe to be the best interest of the country they govern at heart?

Any President or Prime Minister who leaves office after four years earning $400k a year worth over $2m or greater more than when they took office proves the math ain't mathing

Democrats want government to provide a massive, potentially life saving safety net so that no one fails, and we all sacrifice individual liberties and freedoms in the process. Republicans want government to be as small and unobtrusive as possible, with each of us being responsible for ourselves, and our individual freedom maximized.


This is a simplification but i think it captures the essence of the difference.

@Cubus That is why I said my statement is a simplification, because Republicans are also concerned about morality and imposing their views on others. Sometimes, those two driving forces conflict.

Every political party contains members who are moderates and members who are more extreme. It's usually the more extreme members of the Republican party who oppose abortion, gay marriage, trans surgeries, legalising drugs or prostitution, while moderates may take a more acceptance view.

Yes the extreme certainly are like that as well as wanting to destroy unions so their rich can lower wages to where there is no middle class, just them, trump and musk and nobody else deserves anything.
Now the moderates like the Dem moderates think like a much more normal human being, happy when those applying themselves do well, wanting us to have good healthcare, schools and a country to be proud of. The extreme dems have their heads buried so far into the depths of an outhouse that they have no idea what is happening.

Funny and true.

But there is a flip side... people become broken either physically or mentally or spiritually. There is a role to attempt to recover these people. Doesn't seem we are training people for that job, to recover them, or fostering that as a value and that is sad. It used to be social work and it was liberals, but when removing God from the conscious, they gutted it and replaced with a bunch of rules and logic, which one questions the effectiveness.

I like the George Bush example... I learned he's a "conservative"... and thats when I saw him driving his huge double engine boat. I thought..."shouldn't he be in a smaller one engine boat if he's "conservative"? A liberal would be in a sailboat.

These days the disconnect between the political parties in America basically boils down to 4 fundamental questions:

• Do you think that America needs to be a world-facing country, or should we turn more inward?
• Do you believe that the bureaucratic state is/was effectively serving the people it claims to serve?
• Do you believe America has a moral/ethical obligation to help everyone who comes to us with needs?
• Do you basically trust international institutions, and as a consequence; do you believe that America's overweighted investment into them is essential because they know best?

Democrats tend to believe in the world system as they understood it, so they want to keep it going. Republicans tend to argue that the world system isn't actually serving the interests of the American public, so they want to dismantle it.

As with everything else in life; there's a middle ground we desperately need to find lol

Liberals get caught up looking for a way to direct the light to shine on their imagined virtue while the conservative uses common sense. He had very good comedic timing as does Trump. Not so much here because there are so many and the overlap between them as well as the weird nature of some is kind of all over the place. What I know is the SD are the ProEU but anti immigration party and they like to burn the Koran in areas where lots of Muslim people (especially children) live. They are a bunch of Dildo Baggins types who think they have something precious (their ego and self importance) and fear of others.

Because, my young padawan, the result would be goaded and me discussing amongst ourselves. The average Yank can't find Germany on a world map, how would he add to a discussion about our politics or parties?

Oh, I'm sure you exaggerate a tad there. My dad and uncle had to go over and clear up a squabble between Germany and France and the rest of the world back in 42 and 43, as did a few other dads. But you may be right about those under 40. I read a while back that the immigration problem was about to push the control back to the right. I believe Elon dropped in and gave a speech for the right winger, I forget the name.

The new German government (which started today) is a coalition of Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) and Social Democrats (SPD), with the role of chancellor switching from the latter to the former. And immigration is one of their top five topics.

Oh DryGuy, they're long gone. I'm 62. I plan to travel in the next year to Bavaria and Austria to see that beautiful country. My ancestry comes from either Bavaria or Switzerland dating back to 1799 when my 4X grandpa came to America.
