There is a basis for it, and there is a correlation. Children inherit the genes of their parents. Therefore, there is a tendency for children to be like their parents more than nonrelated children would be. However, it is only a tendency because some children are very different than their parents. Nevertheless, it occurs often enough to support the saying.

I dissagree with this strongly I have seen the best of men and women raise children who turned into horrible brats and the truth is they tried there hardest I truly do wish only the best for you and your daughter but I dispense this peice of advice the more you rely on what people say the less you will understand so raise your daughter like she is her own being and not the same person as you and you won't have to worry to much about teenage years

true, but it's a combination of the parents and environment. you can end up with a different apple.

thats' why God made step parents, to add some different influence. it takes a village.

hopefully your daughter takes what you've handed to her and improves it, removes the thorns and builds a better foundation for her kids

Apples don't fall far but they do roll away. Times change and if you're just a carbon copy of your parents you'll struggle to adapt to the new world, they are a product of their past and that won't help your future.
