Any German Shepard owners here? How do you deal with the hair?

I love my German Shepard but the hair that he sheds in my home is a nightmare, I pretty much sweep and swifter and vacuum everyday when I get home from work and it’s becoming way to much ,
To the point I might get rid of him , I even bought a dog hair vacuum that gets a bunch of hair off of him , but it doesn’t eliminate it completely, He is a great dog otherwise but the hair is overwhelming to me , I now see why some owners end up abandoning them , because they are a lot of work. Anyone else dealing with this problem?

Awww... I don't have this issue with my little dog. he's in this pic. But my cat!! Yes her fur gets all over the beds and carpets!

I always grew up with cats and dogs tho. It's kinda part of being a pet owner and well if you get a partner etc they gotta be pet owners or pet lovers too so hopefully don't complain.

Surely you get a lot of companionship from your dog? They give unconditional love and support too. Something hard to fond in humans. If you find the work concerning his fur outweighs those benefits then yeah maybe rehome him. Not for your sake. But for his. And I mean that in nicest possible way.

Awww yeah. My mum had two German shepherds and the house got a lot of mud not just hair. And those so called pet vacuums? Don't last very long! But it is what it is. If you not having visitors over everyday do you think you can take a day off from it here and there? I mean, sweeping up two "other dogs" worth of hair next day won't be any extra work lol

I have a German Shepherd and the amount of hair she sheds is ridiculous. I traveled cross country with her a few years ago and I still have her hair in my truck and it's next to impossible to get rid of. The best thing is get cheap tshirts for your dog and change every couple days it will collect a lot of hair and wearing a shirt settled my dog down a lot. They like wearing the shirts because it's comforting like a hug and German Shepherds can get anxious when left alone. My wife washes our bedding twice a week and vacuums every other day. Sometimes every day. My washing machine drain sometimes gets plugged with dog hair. I've had other types of dogs and German Shepherds are by far my favorite

Some is normal and you won't get away from it. If it is excessive it likely points towards some other issue though.

Having spent a decade or two in the dog world my money would be on the food not being right for your dog. Try a different one with more protein/zinc/etc for a few weeks and see if it helps.

We have a Belgian Shepherd now, but he is an outside dog. However, we used to own a German Shepherd and he was the same issues as yours. All we could do was clean up the hair that he did shed, and regularly take him into be groomed where he would be shaved down during the summer months. It was much cooler for him too.

I do. He used to belong to my ex. Honestly he's a far better companion in every way than my ex.

Just get a proper brush and brush him down outside daily.

I've never owned a German Shepard myself but my sister owned one, she trained him to stand and be vacuumed with the upholstery brush, while using a grooming glove at the same time.

I am keeping him , just the hair annoys the shit out of me , but he is a good dog and he definitely is a protector and he is my shadow cuz he follows me everywhere lol

Oh trust me I deserve him I take care of him all day long and he follows me everywhere, he’s a good dog and very smart , and he is a big German Shepard that definitely guards my home. I laugh when pizza drivers come to my house and he barks , the pizza guy usually jumps like 5 feet in the air startled by him lol , but even though he is intimidating looking he is a big baby and very friendly

I wish it was just some hair , it’s way more than some lol , I am not getting rid of him he is a great dog , just overwhelming sometimes. Now that’s it’s nice out I been keeping him outside with me a lot more to eliminate the hair in my home , seems to be working
