When there is already tensions between civilians and police , leadership can be to back the response and put distance between the civilians and the police force. This is known as ‘deescalation’ which is showcased in case studies to show when you ‘deescalate’ a situation you are lowering the temperature.

When there is boiling temperatures of tension , potential riots , and close encounters it would be unbecoming of a leader in power to make sure the police have backing of armed forces… It pushes the narrative that these civilians are being targeted also that The Official Government Offices are AGAINST their protest / movement.
It is incredibly dangerous for law enforcement , troops , and civilians when tensions reach a breaking point which is why we aim to ‘deescalate’ not ‘escalate’.

Reminder to all future leaders , don’t make this mistake and if a state believes to have it under control then give them the individual state right’s to handle it the way it needs to be handled. Under normal circumstances, the immediate presence of law enforcement officers is a deterrent to crime. When you acknowledge that there has always been a criminal element that would rather k*ll cops and potentially be k*lled by cops than modify their antisocial behavior, it becomes clear that the places we’re deploying the national guard are not the “mostly peaceful” protests that some would have us believe. Peaceful civilians don’t attack law enforcement officers, even when the officers are in the wrong. This is beyond all doubt criminal behavior. Anyone who suggests otherwise is a liar or a fool.

Stay the same I would say the rioter are still gonna do it no matter what so I don't think it change much things. I would say it tend to make the rioter be much more violent because the rioter attack them but it would also. make the rioting last less so it would be more intense bit on a smaller timeframe.

Depends on support of protests by the public. Illegals don't have much support among other social groups that's why suppressing protests with national guard worked this time.

It changes the dynamic. See those regular police are controlled by the people that probably encouraged rioters to riot. They're basically told to stand down and to give ground. National guard's orders don't come from those politicians.

So I'm going to vote that they stay the same (rioters), it's just how they get delt with that changes.

Possibly calm them down. It seemed to work during the Rodney King riots, but it's 2025 and people are a lot different from the early 90s, so hard to say. But I imagine that sending in NG or Marines sends something of a negative message that implies a domestic situation has become a war zone, when it really hasn't. And this might instill panic in people.

I'd say it is only needed when the police have been told to stand down and let the criminals, riot, destroy property, block roads, start fires... they are the muscle to physically STOP them.

You only have law and order and a civil society when criminal activity is actually STOPPED and they are thrown in prison.

If you just let hoodlums do whatever the hell they want with no consequences you have chaos, terror and crime.

Rioters are already breaking the law, if the Guard is needed to prevent them from continuing to do that, then there is no excuse if they riot even more and they should be prosecuted even harder when arrested.

The fact is, the National Guard should not be used unless there was something happening like a declaration of Martial Law, where things got so out of hand it was chaotic. It should not have been allowed in California. That was against the constitution.

well it will "calm them down" as in beat them down if they don't comply with the law. it's a free country. you can have your opinion and free speech. but rioting and destroying property or being violent owards others is a no go. and if local forces can't manage to control the situation, sending the national guard is the logical next escalation step to keep people in control.

It didn't affect Los Angeles for example. They weren't even in the same area of town as the peaceful protests. Any rioting was purely scripted by Trumps clearly paid for actors in a one block area, a movie set. The troops are a thousand or something? Only 150 were surrounding their detention centers the rest were laying around one the floor without blankets or pillows for weeks.

At one time their presence would keep things calmer. Now when the rioters and looters know that there is not much the Guardsman are allowed to do. Holy hack can break loose. Up until the last election. Now the bad people can actually get hurt. Physically and emotionally!
