How do you feel about Israel and Syria reaching ceasefire deal?

Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire, the Syrian and Israeli governments confirmed on Saturday.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu both confirmed the deal on Saturday, after Tom Barrack, the U. S. special envoy for Syria and ambassador to Turkey, announced the agreement on social media.

“In light of the delicate circumstances that the country is going through, in order to save the blood of Syrians, preserve the unity of the Syrian territory and the safety of its people, and in response to national and humanitarian responsibility, the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic declares a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire,” the Syrian presidency wrote in a statement shared on Telegram on Saturday.

I dont hold particularly high hopes for hope here. Syria is very unstable and Israel has started a bunch of unprovoked wars in quick succession as of late. At most I just see this as a brief pause in a much longer story.

As @DryGermanGuy aptly observes, the most immediate question is whether this ceasefire will endure. There are militants who do not want an end to hostilities and the Syrian government must contain those factions who want to continue the jihad.

It seems that hoping for peace in the Mideast is like going to the beach and pissing in the ocean in hopes of raising the tide. But I do hope this lasts.
