School shootings are caused by unstable people and unstable people come from unstable families. Unstable families can not be corrected with top down processing through government or bureaucratic interventions, it must be corrected through bottom up processing where every day and physically moving people, homogenous to that environment, manually socialize and work to change the every day culture of those social pocket in society. This is a cultural and life style symptom, not a bureaucratic symptom.

You don''t think there are "unstable families" in other countries? The US has a higher rate of knife murders than, say, the UK.

My attempted point was that America is still exceptionally violent compared with other countries. More knife murders per capita, but 70% of murders used firearms!

Perhaps universal health care would help.

There are 115,171 schools in the United States. On average there have been 42 school shootings per year since 1970. This means that 0.03% of schools have school shootings per year. So the United States is very close to preventing school shootings at 100% of schools in our country. There are a few outliers.

Additionally most of the school shootings that do happen are not mass shootings. They are just one person attempting to murder another person (i. e. gang violence).

You mean prevent as in none ever? No country on earth can do that. The USA harbours 450 million people dude. You can not at all times control and monitor every single person.

There's always more you could do to increase security, however.

      1. Shootings happen in China. www.reuters.com/.../

Tons of other crimes happen as well in China. If you think they have complete control over their populous, you're ridiculous.

      2. Seriously? You'd want a complete police state where you have zero freedom and integrity, no privacy? Where the state rules your every moment of your life. That is insanity. If you want that move to communist China where secret police will abduct you for breathing a word against the government.

We could, but we won't because there is a vocal minority who thinks they have a right to own military assault rifles. Other countries don't have school shootings because they banned private ownership of such weapons. There was a school shooting in Australia decades ago, they immediately passed legislation to prevent them, and there has never been another.

Stfu. Before you go banning “military assault rifles” don’t you think you ought to define what one is first? You don’t even have a clue what one is. The weapons are already out there.

That is basically a murder. You think a government can stop murders. Ok.

What is wrong with you? No one can control anyone. Everyone has free will. Do you really think a government can stop all evil?

      Murder has existed forever.
      It always will.
You speak as if laws will prevent all murders.
"For 2021, the UNODC reported 458,000 homicides globally."

The rough estimate globally for 2021 was 458,000.

      458,000!

This is that ridiculous argument that the right always uses. What is it with people who think than less than 100% effectiveness is worthless? ↗

20,000 of those murders were in the US. Unless you want to compare your country to South American and African countries, that's terrible.

And school shootings are not "basically a murder", it's multiple attempted murders of children with the kind of weapon most people shouldn't have access to.

Your pride makes you think it can be stopped by a law.
Good luck on that magic law.
Only the heart can prevent that. Good, honest people that know right and wrong. A corrupt, degenerate culture full of nihilism, evil and selfishness will produce a lot of sleazy people that do not give a shit about life and do evil things.
This is the fruit of society falling starting decades ago.
If you think a law or laws can end this propose your ideas?

When are you going to realise that reducing something bad is still a good thing, even if it doesn't eliminate it completely? Would you stop research into cancer treatments? Stop bothering with speed limits or traffic lights?

You know the general murder and violent crime rates were about twice as high just 30-40 years ago?

Mass shootings require two things, an idiot and a gun. If you try to avoid idiots getting guns, you will reduce mass shootings.

Pick a country. Any one of the 50 or so that have a murder rate a quarter of the US's, for example, which includes most of Western Europe, Oceania, etc. Looking specifically at school shootings (which doesn't necessarily include fatalities), and the US is A#1, with 574 in the last 25 years.

Your attitude quite literally an international sick joke.

      What laws?
If you like a law someone has name what the law is, what it does.
One that does not tell a US citizen they aren't allowed to defend themselves from the endless fatherless inner city thugs that go around getting guns illegally and shooting each other by the thousands.

If there is something you propose from whatever Europe has then name what it is.

And I will add that after the fact, the local police and the FBI and everyone and their dog already knew about the crazy guy. I bet to this very day that the uvalde Texas high School hasn't fixed those doors. And for what it's worth, most smartphones can do facial recognition. Why aren't schools equipped with facial recognition to find the crazies they already know about?
