11 moHow they personally feel is valid. It will only be sexist based on what they do about it.

u 11 moHow do you define "sexist?" Based on your definition, is "sexist" something that should be condemned?
00 Reply - 3.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
u 11 moNot necessarily. Most men who want children probably want at least one boy who will carry on the family name and legacy, and whom he can take fishing and hunting, take him to football games, and teach him to grill and how to work on cars and other such things. Most women likewise probably want at least one girl who will want to bake treats and smear mommy's makeup all over her face when she's not looking. There's nothing wrong with that.
However, the problem comes in if and when, assuming the parents live together (preferably being married as well), a child is not given the love and formation that they need in order to grow to be a happy and well-adjusted adult because of one or both parents' preference for a child one sex of a child of the other. Boys and girls each need said love and formation from each parent so that they can develop a healthy image of themselves and know what to look for if they are to pursue marriage when that time comes. If their parents do not give them those things owing to their preferences for having had a boy over a girl or a girl over a boy, that is where the problem comes in.
Similarly, they should not assume that one sex is destined to think and behave a certain way.
Now, when my wife was pregnant with our daughters (we have twins), she said she'd always felt like she would be a better mother to boys than to girls and that gave her some anxiety about it. From my perspective, she's doing just fine with both our son and our daughters. But this is also a reason why I don't think it's wrong or selfish. Becoming a parent, however, requires one to grow and learn. So even of they don't necessarily get what they want, they can and should still adjust to what that life requires.

11 moI grew up a boy obviously and boy's were primarily the only one's around me growing up. I grew up with an older sister only sister she had her friends and like my older brother she ways always off with her friends doing her thing and basically it was just me and my younger brother mostly together. Both me and my brother wanted girls around but being we were raised in a off section town girl's were hardly never around.
The girls that did live near by were sister's of the friends either our older brother or sister has and mostly stayed to themselves and there wasn't many of them at all. Me and my younger brother grew up really close and remain close to this day and we both agree we would have loved to have had girls around but they were just never there and when they finally were had we blinked we would have missed them there and gone.
From the 80's to the 90's I took care of the children of others and most of them were girls and wanted to adopt of one them after she was left with me for months though she went back with one of her parents her dad. With the exception of sitting during those years girls were completely absent. The relationship life failed and marriage was out but I had still not given up on the idea of having children yet.
Over time seeing society turn on men especially straight white men the vilifying and demonization of men in the process of men being thrown under the bus I also learned the possibility of adoption especially adopting girl's wasn't possible and I finally just gave up on the idea of having any children altogether.

I realized I hadn't answered your question not directly and to answer the question if preferring a baby boy more than a baby girl is sexist then I'm sure then I would be considered a sexist for wanting a baby girl too assuming it's not based on hypocrisy and works or applies both ways. 77

11 moI don't know whether it's sexist or not. There can be all kinds of reasons for a preference one way or another. I really wanted my first child to be a boy. But, it was. because I grew up with a big brother and I loved him so much that I thought every girl should have a big brother. But the baby was a girl. When she was born, I took one look at her and thought: What was the matter with me that I thought I wanted a boy so much? THIS is the EXACT baby I wanted. I just didn't know it until the moment I laid eyes on her.

11 moNot necessarily sexist. I think in general for most people it's easier to have a baby who is the same gender that you are. Moms can relate more to baby girls and dads can relate more to baby boys, naturally and obviously. I imagine a dad might have a hard time talking about periods and stuff to his female child since he doesn't personally relate to it like the mom does. And I imagine a mom might have a hard time talking about sudden boners and stuff to her male child since she doesn't personally relate ot it like the dad does.
It becomes sexist though when you start to treat the child different for not being your expected/wanted gender. But in general it's normal for people to have preferences.

11 moPreferring a baby boy over a girl (or vice versa) can be sexist, but it depends on why the preference exists.
If the reason is based on harmful stereotypes (e. g., “boys are stronger” or “girls are less valuable”), then yes — that reflects sexist thinking.
If it's based on personal experience, family dynamics, or emotional reasons (e. g., “I’ve always imagined raising a daughter”), it’s more about individual preference than sexism.
So, the preference itself isn't automatically sexist — the motive behind it is what matters.00 Reply
11 moListen I’ll tell you the truth as I know it to be when a man has his first child, he wants it to be a boy why because we all want sons first. Some guys go on to name their first son after them which I think is ridiculous however, baby girls are special too. I have a 25-year-old son and a 21 year-old daughter I love them just the same, but when my son was born into his world, I was glad he was a boy three years later, when my daughter came into the world, I was just as happy that day as I was with my son. However, my daughter has always been a handful. She’s gorgeous, she’s smart and she has a little attitude. And on the flipside, my son is tall, handsome direct, more serious, but at the same time laid-back and funny. But the real truth is, I’ll spoil my little girl till the day I die. Because in my eyes she can do no wrong. And with my son I sometimes give him shit even when he’s become a very good person. I just wish he’d stopped being a male whore.

Thank you I do feel special sometimes especially when my kids didn’t grow up doing any of the dumb ass shit I did. Sometimes i think they can’t be my kids but Im very proud of both of the and they both know it i’ll die for either one of them.

11 moIt turned out my ex wife could not conceive, but I will admit that I actually wanted a daugher more than I wanted a son. Somehow I thought I could be a better father figure to the former than to the latter. Of course, I would have done my best with whatever came.
(Since nothing actually DID come, I guess the issue is moot).

11 moWhen nature calls… our wants and needs don’t matter.
we were happy when we have our daughter, we were happy when we have our son.
appreciate our children are healthy and happy and doing well in life.
we are traveling throughout Europe, some have 3 boys, some 4 girls… they all love their kids.stop asking sexist questions and stop having kids.

11 moIn India, yes? People here get abortion to avoid girl children.
In general, yes again. Some people are so weird about their choices. Can't they just be happy with parenthood? Like, a lot of couples have trouble conceiving, just be grateful you're not them
00 Reply Hmm not necessarily but I do think hoping for one sex more than the other may impact the entire panorama of going into parenting… I think a healthy baby is more than one could hope/be grateful for…
if you really want a boy or girl, consider adoption instead00 Reply
11 moI don't think it's a sexist preference however, I often wonder if my mom regrets that I was a boy. She's a feminist, but she's also at the same time, a girly girl. So she'll fight FOR women, but, at the same time, she also likes to dress up and all that
00 ReplyNo! This term sexist is a made-up piece of crap by a liberal think tank in the 60s. The Gloria affect! Just like the term racist. Why would it be anything out of the ordinary to have a preference? I do believe it is a normal thing during pregnancy.

11 moNo not really because its their decision on what they want it doesn't matter to me what they prefer because I'd prefer a girl because I want to have the luxury to teach my own daughter on how to use sanitary products when she comes of age. And I also understand a lot of people prefer different things and I dont think anything is wrong with that we should all be able to have our own preferences and opinions.

m 11 moIt's really too thin for me to think about sexism, but let's hear more of how they elaborate their preference so I can form a more reliable opinion?

11 moWell, they cannot do anything about it, you get what you, get so it isn't relevant unless they are abortion or discarding kids they do not want.
00 Reply Not really, most of the time it just depends on the preference each has... I would actually like a baby boy 🤭

11 moIt's not sexist to prefer a boy or girl. We all have our own wants and desires. It's sexist to have only the sex (boy or girl) that you want.
