Do Americans get taught the revolutionary and civil war or just the propaganda? Based on what I've seen on gag over the years it's the later.

Most other countries don't have a short snappy origin, they came about over hundreds or thousands of years. It's where we are now that matters not events that happened 100s of years ago.
