Should Europe become a federal state?

Interesting question to think about. But doesn't Europe pretty much have the benefits of a federalized system without the legal bureaucracy in the current European Union? They have the cooperation and open borders to promote commerce. They have cooperation on cross border crime. And they have a joint defense pact in NATO. They have a connected system of rail and ports that provides access to African, Middle Eastern and North/South American markets. And the EU members get to keep their own language and culture and history, something that wasn't a concern when the US was forming new states. I'm not sure a cost benefit analysis would produce a compelling case for Europe to change to a federalized system.
Also does the fact that an EU member can detach (or be thrown out) at any time (with some pain) make for better behaved members in general over time?
Yes, but it won't happen for 100 years if that. The EU was a test run and it's not doing well because the EU is a confederation and not a federation. Federations are harder to create because that implies the constituents are required to give up some sovereign power for the sake of the Federal Government.
RIght now, that's not going to happen because of the far right identity crisis in Europe regarding non-Christian, non-European immigrants. Until this is resolved in all nations in Europe, there won't be a federation. And that's only a necessary condition, not a sufficient one. Royal families would have to give up their crowns. People don't like giving up power. Ask Louis XVI about that.
When the parliament gets more authority compared to the council and the EU gets more democratic than I would love if they get more like a state. But they need to reform before they get more authority when if comes to laws. They need to get away from a mainly trading hub to an actual legislator based on democratic values. I am not sure if the goal should be a full federalization of each member state.
I'd like to see more unification but I don't think we should go down the federal route because it doesn't seem to be working well for America.

No. Would each state elect senators and congressmen to serve in the federal government? And would there be a President of Europe? Imagine the bureaucracy.
Each country has its own unique history, language and culture. They should retain their independence.
A federation sounds like a step toward the One World Government that the UN, WEF and globalists are intent on achieving.
that's like asking whether continental america should become a federal state xD or continental asia. it's many very different societies that have different goals and needs. so it would be hard to establish a legitimate government to reconcile these extremely different nations.
Until now EU just showed incompetency in question of immigration or defense. Federal state is further away than 10 years ago and I think EU might fall apart if Brussels makes as many mistakes they did since Ursula took the rudder.
No! That is the last thing we need. In reality Europe and North America as well should be broken up into micro-nations with free trade and free travel
I don’t believe Europe should be a Federal State,
I don’t have a good reason for it, just a feeling more or less.
I think the current depth of integration is the right compromise, but we need better and faster work processes across all union members.
Isn't the EU and the European Parliament and NATO all in their own ways, that already? A federated type of federal Europe de facto lol lol 😆
It basically already is. The EU, common euro money, Schengen area for no border checks, European Parliament, Court at The Hague.
Given the longtime, chronic democratic deficit in Europe and cultural and linguistic diversity, that would be a very bad idea.
Nah that's not going to work. A confederacy maybe but European countries are too different for becoming one country.
What's is totally normal in country leads to someone calling the police in another.
Also why should they?
The EU is about to break a part because people elect their governments through democracy but the EU imposes unchecked immigration on countries against the people's will.
Europe deserves better. To work hand in hand is nice. But to pretend that we're all the same is counter-cultural.
No, but there should be some consolidation of willing, similar cultures. Like, maybe, Bosnia/Herzegovina.
If they don't care about having their own identity and running their land by themselves...
P;ease explain the pros and cons. How leaders would be chosen, in short, make it a proposal.
No, the EU is falling apart. These countries will never be able to get along.
I prefer them to retain their individual cultures. But it is obviously their choice
Hell no, we have enough of our own problems, we do not need to take on other countries' problems that will be foisted on us to fix
Who gives a shit what they do? We here in America have our own bullshit to figure out.
No, because Europe is an almagram of different languages, dialects and customs.
Is that different from the EU?
Someday. Not yet
What does federal state mean?
Countries too different, won't work
What like the fourth reich ie Roman Empire?
No, I don't think so.
No Lol
Nope.
How is EU different to federalized?
Do you mean a United States of Europe?
USE! USE!
It's already feral
Hell no.
no..
