This shouldn't affect your decision at all. It was a political assassination and had nothing to do with you.

The US us actually pretty safe. Just use common sense, which you probably already do.

1) Don't join violent gangs
2) Don't deal drugs
3) Don't marry a violent drunken spouse

If you don't do any of the above, there is nothing to be concerned about. One person out of 340 million doesn't mean anything.

It was never peaceful. Here are the stats for violent crimes. Mostly avoid gun-loving Republican states where you can see the crimes are worst. At the bottom of the list are some safe Democrat states with little crime.

At this rate we're heading for another bleeding Kansas so yea I recommend you stay where you are. Things are going to get worse here before they get better, I'm afraid. I know America talks big about being the best place to live in the world but TBH depending on what kind of life you want to have you might be a lot better off in Britain or France.
