I don't worry at all about Jimmy Kimmel. He'll have his own show up and running in no time, and all the guests lined up. ABC will be a broke, bent over, ghost town.
Cable TV is dead in of itself. Better to have a cause cancelation then bleed out a contract. The go to cable provider in my area dropped all cable tv and is only an internet cell phone provider and there's only satellite TV in a valley which is all around shitty.
My guess tv channels are on there last leg. Here's my hope, twitch streamers can broadcast sports games and be commentators. From there i can start being a dedicated fan to teams with my favorite streamer.

No , better to choose which hills your willing to die for. Unfortunately the FCC is run by another of the kings men. If they had held out I have not a doubt in my mind an executive order would have been decreed causing the loss of broadcasting licenses. Apparently 1.7 million viewers per night is a very narrow interest group. Thank God prior holders of the title "leader of the free world" were thicker skinned or 4.7 million viewers ( 2024 numbers) would have had to find other means of entertainment for their Saturday nights.
A show called Saturday night Live made quite a business of ridiculing presidents , more then one of which not only enjoyed the show, but actually appeared on the program and took part in the degradation. it should be noted that enough elected officials allowed the show to go on that its now on its 51st season. I guess thats the difference between being governed as opposed to being ruled.

On one hand i would say yes but on the other he wasn't making these comments on the street or on his break in the abc cafeteria but instead was doing it while in the performance of his job which his company pays him millions to do. Also to demonstrate a point the nazis jailed Christian pastors and Catholic priest who criticised the nazis and they ended up in concentration and death camps. US government interference with free speech is illegal. That's what Trump's doing. Unlike Kimmel, Barr genuinely did make an offensive comment and was punished by her employers, without any threats from the government needed.

ABC made a business decision. It was really a win win for them. They avoid a costly lawsuit that they were likely to lose or maybe the loss of their FCC license and the got rid of Kimmel who still had a year left on his contract. His show has had dismal ratings for years.

Like for most of late night shows changing viewership in key demographics meant the show was declining. If he were a solid and sure earner for the producers and distributors of the show, they'd have ignored everyone and left him on. Also, do not be surprised if after a brief pause, the show returns precisely because of the new publicity. Networks care about income.
