Does using the word “overweight” sound less harsh and more politically correct than using the word “fat” in your opinion?

All of this "avoidance" language is bullshit. Yesterday the word was fat, today the word is overweight, tomorrow the word will be large. Same thing. Your caloric intake exceeds your caloric burn rate. To the point that you're obese. Use whatever word you want. Does that make the root cause any different.

Overweight is when they are 10-20 pounds over their ideal weight. If they are more than 40 pounds over they are fat and slowly killing themselves. If you want to soften the blow and use euphemisms, you are contributing to their death.

We didn't tip-toe around smoking. We didn't use politically correct terms like inhalation deprived. No, we told them they are killing themselves. We told them they stink. We told them nobody wanted to be around their stinky ass and made them smoke far far away. We generally treated them like lepers. And we taxed the hell out of them. It worked and saved millions of lives.

overweight means you either have to fight in the next highest weight class or wear garbage bags and go running in the parking garage for a couple hours to cut water weight. Most athletes are over BMI standards, because they are healthy and muscular with strong dense bones. Fat, means fat. If you want to talk about how fat someone is, then call them fat.

Overweight and obese are used in medical documentation. Fat is used rather in animal production.
