I see rules as guidelines. Most are there so that there are consequences for idiots. You can't punish someone if there isn't a rule or law against what they did.

Some rules make total sense and some are stupid. And some rules can be bent.

At my job, I worked in the field out of my house. As long as my paperwork looked good and was turned in on time, the company was happy. But I knew the system and didn't always follow the rules to the letter because I knew how to save time. They still thought I was a superstar.

On the road, I follow traffic laws to the letter, except I bend the speed limits when it's safe. People who never exceed the speed limit are a pain in the ass.
It's even illegal to go the speed limit if it impedes the flow of traffic.

When I was young, I broke the law by smoking weed everywhere, drinking at parties when I was under age, and having sex with minors.
I skipped classes in high school and went off campus.
Friends and I sneaked onto the beach at night to party after it was closed.
We regularly sneaked onto private ski resort property to slide down hills. We sneaked into an abandoned amusement park in the mountains many times.
I set off illegal fireworks. And I went onto privately owned land to shoot guns and target practice.
I would buy concert tickets in the bleachers and sneak down to the floor seats and even rush the stage.

I didn't mask or social distance during covid because those mandates were absurd.

I've probably done lots of other stuff that was against the rules or technically illegal.

So I'm not a law and order Dudley Do Right or stickler for rules. I just never stole, damaged property or harmed anyone.

Rules aren't MEANT to be broken. But some SHOULD be broken. When the rules go against what you know is morally right, then you should absolutely go against it.

For example, in many parts of Canada, if you defend yourself against someone who broke into your house, you're somehow the one in the wrong. It doesn't matter if their intention was to kill or rape your loved ones. It doesn't matter if they planned on stealing something that would ruin your life or set you back many years. They're somehow not the ones in the wrong if you shoot them or hit them with a bat and cripple them.

Any human with common sense knows that it should be right to defend yourself and potentially kill intruders that have broken into your house and threatening your loved ones and yet the law defends them.

In those cases, ignore the stupid laws. Laws were made by humans, which are imperfect by nature. So rules and laws should absolutely be broken if they go against what's clearly morally righteous.

Disagree, rules are frameworks, not chains.

Breaking them without reason is reckless, understanding them allows strategic choice.

The value isn’t rebellion for its own sake it’s discernment, timing, and awareness.

Wisdom lies in knowing which rules protect your integrity and which can be bent without compromise.

    Intent matters more than impulse.

Agree, but with limits. Some rules exist to protect people, while others just limit creativity or progress. The key is knowing which ones deserve to be challenged and which ones are there for a good reason.

Lol, that has not got a single person off a speeding ticket, anywhere in the world.

In fact you are likely to get banned from driving, if you were to try and use that excuse in court.

A person with no regard for the rules, will have little regard for the law, to boot.

Rules, laws, morality, ethics. It's all situational and flexible. People who understand when and where and how to step outside the normal moral constraints of society will always have a place in human civilization. But they also need to be able to cross back over to normal constraints on their behavior once a threat has been dealt with.

Disagree.. Rules are made because humans aren't angels.. We're not good or altruistic, but not evil.. We are driven by incentives.. Rules are made to give put a cap on how far people can go. The punishment for breaking those rules incentives people into following them.. Some rules are a bit too much though..

No. Rules have been made to apply to some people while other are free to break them freely. Real power isn't money or redistribution of resources, real power is impunity. Lolita express and Epstein files are just a symptom of that.

Yes, sort of. If no one ever breaks the rule, there's no reason for the rule to exist. But the real reason rules exist is too define the enforcement when they are broken.

    Disagree.

No one ever came up with a rule thinking, "And now that this rule exists, people can break it, which is what we were aiming for all along!"

Some rules are good rules and keep you safe. Others are not so important and are there just to control certain behaviors which may be necessary at a given moment.

Its just an old saying made up to excuse mischievous kids. Of course they are not made so that they will be broken. It's just coincidental that its just fun to break them.

No. If there were no rules, such as in traffic, things would only get messier. Rules help keeping things in order.
