After the Senate voted to reopen government 60-40, the House has now voted to reopen the US Government, effectively ending a 40+ day shutdown. It now waits for the President's signature, which is expected.

It's interesting that there were a small number of "defectors" on both sides of the aisle, though far from a bipartisan resolution.

I think it's quite strange how the party that CLAIMED they were concerned about all the starving food stamps children and what have you, BECAUSE of the shut down, are now extremely pissed at the others of their own party that FINALLY ended the shut down!

Except, legally, SNAP is not provided as long as the government is open. It is provided regardless.

The shutdown was over affordable Healthcare insurance. SNAP wasn't an issue until Trump threw a temper tantrum and tried to deny it.

@Twalli There was no temper tantrum. The shutdown was about giving all sorts of benefits, UINCLUDING SNAP, to ILLEGALS. Those of us with common sense voted against that.

@nodecision Valid points, but one has to remember that Democrats and Republicans essentially swapped policies in the early 20thCentury. The Republican party of 2025 is essentially the Democratic part of 1870, and vice versa.

I would celebrate, but people merely doing their jobs shouldn’t warrant special celebration. In fact, we should be able to fire everyone who contributed to the shutdown. They should pass a law that not only freezes pay for elected officials, but docks them prorated for every day that the government is shut down.

You can't fire elected officials. As for Congresspeople getting paid, I mostly agree. You don't get paid as government employees if other government employees aren't getting paid.

I know that we can’t fire elected officials. If you read more carefully, you’ll see that i wrote that “we should be able to”. Despite what the majority of dumbsh*t voters in this country think, elected officials are not authorities of any kind. They are public servants who were elected to do a JOB. Failure to do that job absolutely should result in firing without exception. They have absolutely no incentive to do anything for anyone when they not only have a guaranteed salary and job security, but are allowed to take bribes from lobbyists and organized criminals. The system is literally designed to compel corruption.
