Trending & News The word homo"phobia" is stupid. Who is afraid of homosexuals? Some people feel more like revulsion or aversion toward homosexuals, but not fear. And, for heterosexuals, it is natural to feel disgust at the thought of sexual contact with someone of the same sex.
I think a person's sexuality is innate. You don't choose to be heterosexual or gay.
But aversion to homosexuals is learned. After all, infants and young children know nothing about sexuality. They pick up anti-homosexual attitudes from their peers and sometimes from parents.
Some gay guys act perfectly normal. But it is the guys with female mannerisms that guys don't want to be associated with. I mean, I've seen and even known some gay guys who were totally cool. But I find the flamboyant Richard Simmons type nauseating. The kind who prance around in short shorts and wag their asses like they are in heat.
Just keep the pro-LGBTQ shit out of schools. Impressionable children don't need to think drag queens are fun. They don't need to be taught about gay sex by people who promote homosexuality and trans-genderism.
If homosexuality is innate, it shouldn't have to be taught and promoted.
@Lliam Thank you for you calm, cool dissertation on the subject, and I am in agreement with you.
My brother's homosexuality, drove a wedge between us at an early age, and I think he resented my heterosexuality, although he did stand up for me at my wedding, and I stood up for him at his. GIVING MY TOAST AT MY WEDDING, MY BROTHER OPENLY CRIED, AND I THINK PRAYED FOR MY AND SUSAN'S HAPPINESS.
THANKS AGAIN, Liam.
@Lliam P. S. my brother's sexuality was an area of contentiousness up until his death, and I shaved him, helped him to the bathroom to brush his teeth, got someone to cut his hair in his home, helped him with his urine bag, (as her was catharized) I loved him in spited of our differences in sexuality.
@Bricealan. I am so sorry to hear about your brother's death.
I didn't know anything about sex or homosexuality when I was a kid. My parents never talked about it. But the guys in grammar school used to shout words like queer, homo and f*gg*t when playing. I picked that up and, as a guy, I didn't want to be associated with with those words.
In high school, I hung out with the hippies who were about peace and love and were more open minded. I was also a rocker and was confused by androgynous images of rock stars like T Rex, Edgar Winter, and David Bowie on album covers. So, even though I was 100% into girls, I stopped stigmatizing homosexuals.
Then, later in life, I saw and grew to like certain gay celebrities, and came to understand homosexuality better. I even campaigned and voted for gay marriage.
So I have no problem with LGB. But I oppose the trans trend.
It's taught, the same as racism and other prejudices.
A little of both. All homophobes have SOME attraction to the same sex. They’re not necessarily gay themselves, but at minimum they’re some percentage of bisexual. I can’t remember which university it was but they collected a study of 100 or so men, 50 self-proclaimed homophobes and 50 heterosexual men who had no cares and/or fully supported the gay community. They showed them 3 different kinds of pornography: male/female, female/female, and male/male, and all groups became visibly aroused at the m/f and f/f porn, but ONLY the homophobes became visibly aroused at the m/m porn. Homophobes have learned that the society they live in will never accept any kind of perceived queerness, which turns into a form of sexual repression that doesn’t allow them to express that part of themselves and so they turn it into an outward projection of their self-hatred, directing it exclusively to the queer community. It’s both something they learn and something “innate” as it only happens because they themselves are a little gay.
I think that the same University did a study that addressed the question. "Who would not dress in drag for a costume party". Seems those individuals who profess to be homophobic are less likely to participate. Men who are not insecure about their sexuality would participate. Those who were scared that they might be gay would not participate.
Learned, the fact we are a herd animal certainly influences how we deal with things, but in tribalism what is seen as good and bad is something we learn

I have zero issues with people who are homosexual, I find what they do in the bedroom fucking gross, but if its not in front of me, meaning if its kept private, i just do not care.
Here is a comical fact, Homosexuals find straight people bedroom activities just as gross.
I think its both. I think its innate because biology and evolution has designed men and women to procreate with each other, for example, if everyone was homosexual, the human race would die out. As a result, people who aren't homosexual have a natural aversion to it, But that's not the real problem. the real problem are the ones who have learned better, Who have been taught to accept people, still choosing to obey that instinct. People like that are evil. Especially the ones that hurt them just because they are different.
So, do i hate gay people? No, Not even close. Do i agree with everything they do? Again, no. Do i want to stop them? as long as they aren't hurting anyone, or exposing children to it, No. Do i want to take away their rights? Fuck no, never. I basically have a live and let live policy when it comes to them.
What is 'homophobia? My brother was homosexual, and I spent time out in public with him. I cringe at seeing one man squeeze another man's ass! I cringe at seeing my only brother gaze like a moron at another man's ass in a restaurant (a waiter) I want to throw up seeing my brother laying naked in bed with his male "wife" (because he purposefully did not lock the door do his room, and I had to walk through there to the only bathroom)
I DON'T WANT TO SEE HOMOSEXUAL PEOPE DOING HOMOSEXUAL ACTS RIGHT IN MY FACE... IS THAT HOMOPHOBIC? NO, AND IT IS BULLSHIT TO HAVE HOMOSEXUALS MAKE THAT ASSERTION.
The word homophobia is marketing by the gay community that characterizes any opposition to being gay as a fear.
Much like women who are pissed off that men don’t approach them tend to characterize the men being too afraid to approach their womanly awesomeness.
Wrong in both cases. Some guys haven’t had great experiences in the dating world and they just quit doing something that brought them nothing but misery. Stick your finger in an electric outlet enough times and you’ll stop doing that too.
And some guys do not and will never understand or be on board with being gay themselves. That doesn’t mean we want to tell anyone else how to live their life or that we “fear” gay and lesbian people. We simply reject that lifestyle for ourselves.
So stop with the self serving bullshit like “homophobia” and characterizing men who opt out as fearful of women. Sometimes straight men can disagree with you. Why is it so hard for everyone to accept that reality?
Phobia doesn’t mean just fear. It can also mean an aversion.
Many words can have more than one meaning behind it
I believe there is probably some instinctual aversion to homosexuality. It's not necessary a deep hatred, phobia, or desire to control what people do in their bedrooms. It's more like a slight disturbance that someone appears to be breaking social order.
How are they breaking social order? Because society is built with families. People reproduce, and their offspring enter roles into society to keep it running. If someone can't do that for non-medical reasons, it appears to be an unusual lifestyle choice (whether or not its truly a "choice"). People usually have to actively rewire their thinking, or be influenced in some way to fully accept and support homosexuality.
But the thing is. They do actually get offspring. They take care of the abandoned kids in the system, they'll get a surrogate and women get a sperm donation. And sometimes a gay couple and a lesbian couple will have kids together and will raise it as 4 parents.
Society will be fine if everyones gay.
This is the kind of bizarre thinking that results from going against your own instincts. A world where children are born from extracting sperm from gays and putting it inside lesbians, then all four raise it just makes no sense.
@NobodyXox Yeah totally fine. So instead of doing the natural thing we end up with all these labs working around the clock to make things in an artificial way, and children are raised by gay parents. Yes absolutely amazing. Ideally these things do not exist, and that is what we should aim for. Work in favor of nature not against it.
I believe it comes from self hate. I believe the only reason you can't stand people in love marrying is because you are jealous of them. Because it doesn't hurt them in any way. The only way it could be hurting them is because jealousy.
And they're often the people who hate say being gay is a choice. But if you ask a truly straight person why they're straight they will tell you that they're born like that. The only reason you think it's a choice is because you're actually bisexual but you choose to be straight.. There's no other explanation, if you're straight you wouldn't have to choose because you're not attracted to anything else.
Jealous lol
Hard to tell because simply having an opinion against homosexuality is considered homophobia, which is inaccurate, phobia is what's used to describe a fear and the real homophobes by definition are probably extremely uncommon since there must be fear involved, homosexuals are probably the complete opposite of intimidating and simply being disgusted doesn't make someone scared, it just makes them disgusted which is something that can't really be controlled and many including myself will consider this form of reaction valid since th only natural way to mate and reproduce has always been opposite sexes.
Disgust is a natural reflex to a healthy formed human brain.
It’s innate. Our physical bodies and much of our lives are biologically programmed to create new generations. Homosexuality is a dead end genetically and therefore wastes crucial resources for furthering the species. Just like we innately know to stay away from people with diseases or bad genes shown in their disfigurements, illnesses, low intelligence, lack of symmetry etc we also know that homosexuality is also a hinderance and a problem for the species.
Now that homosexual is in the open, if there is a genetic component to it, it won’t be passed on as they won’t feel forced to marry and have children like in the past. So this great coming out may actually help in dramatically reducing the number of gays. It’s funny how things work when you sit back and take it all in.
I think homophobia is learned.
Nobody comes into the world hating anyone that stuff usually grows from the environment family beliefs, culture, fear of what feels unfamiliar, or people using religion as a shield for their discomfort.
But the good thing about something being learned is that it can be unlearned.
Once someone gets exposed to real people and real stories, a lot of those rigid ideas start to fall apart.
I dunno. Do you think gender roles are learned or innate? Because like it or not, society has gender expectations. Go outside of the norm, set societal standards of society and you will pay the price. I'm not pointing the finger at homosexuality. This can applied to be anything. If I decided to sell my house today and live in my car, society would shun me for it. Is it right? Is it wrong? Arguments can be made for both sides. My attitude is two adults loving eachother and caring about eachother is never wrong. I think the world could use a whole lot more MYOB and just love eachother (as Jesus does).
When we are born, we are pure and adopt the behaviors of our surroundings, including our mentors, friends family. This behavior is and will always be learned behavior, but here is the kicker, mostly due to religion, someone devoted to their teaching, like catholicism in religion, will follow verses from the bible that are law speaking in reference to your question, I also believe those who simply do not care are those who accept them and likely godless, personally I don't think people should care if they are not harming anyone but there will always be a stigma in contrary to the branch of people surrounded by the said word mentioned, remember just like in other countries men marry young women or lust after underage women the men in the LGBT community will carry the same lustfull behaviour towards little boys which the reason for the hate towards them lets keep it real
It’s innate
For a simple biological reason
If you’re straight the last thing you want is someone from the same sex trying to get chummy with you
So you grow up fearing it in way
If anything, acceptance is learned
There is no such thing as "homophobia" . People need to wake up and see reality. The disgust response is natural and to be expected. https://www.psypost.org/straight-mens-physiological-stress-response-seeing-two-men-kissing-seeing-maggots
homosexuality is a learned trait.
God created two genders to procreate with the opposite gender. Anything other than that is unnatural. It's not a "phobia" to say that, it's natural logic to say that.
Therefore, it is 100% natural to be opposed to homosexuality.
In-group, out-group hostility is innate.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realistic_conflict_theory#Robbers_Cave_study
The particular out-group... Jews, Christians, Muslims, Black people, Asians, Mexicans, Slavs, Gypsies and all of a sudden Transgender people... is learned.
homophobia is a woke nonsense word. nobody is "scared of gay people", which is what homophobia means in non pretentious words.
people have a natural aversion against the sexuality they don't happen to be. it's not a "phobia" and everyone has that, even gay people.
The hatred towards them is mostly learned mixed with a bit of fear of getting hit on or sexually harassed!
I fully understand and agree 100% the hate and fear over children when it comes down to pedofilia. That shit should never be tolareted under any circumstances and same goes with child marriages!
Homosexuality has nothing to do with age, so calm down world with the hate for people who have done notjing illegal!
Learned. As is any type of hatred. They ran experiments with young kids and play... children when young show very little sign of racism. They will play and interact with anyone. So how do they eventually become bigots? It must be learned.
Inate. Most people in touch with God know what is wrong and right. If Homos were right. Why are they so unhappy and linked to evils like promiscuity, sexually transmitted diseases, pedophilia, depression, and suicide? Turn your back on Evil. Live for the lord.
Both, traditional society don't likes gays, as a straight man I find gay men acts disgusting.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/688XMcEchFQIt, just like racism, is learned, and unfortunately cultural.
(and I can’t believe you even had to ask)
Define what homophobia is. Likewise, what words and actions fit that definition, how, and why.
Phobia means a fear or an aversion. I don’t see why people would fear gay people but people who feel an aversion towards gay people do exist.
I know what a phobia is. My question still stands though. What are you seeing and hearing that fits the definition of homophobia?
Discrimination or verbal insults towards gay people.
I have heard stories in my life of people being physically assaulted for being gay. A person must feel an aversion towards gay people to think about doing things like this.
I'm sure stuff like that happens. It's ugly, it's evil, and it shouldn't happen. In some ways, I'd think it's pretty easy to say that it's learned. But similarly, men and women are naturally oriented towards and complement each other. That by itself can't be reasonably or fairly seen as the basis for calling such behavior "innate".
You mention discrimination. What do you mean by that?
You're also missing a key word in the definition of the word "phobia". That key word is "irrational". It's an irrational fear or aversion.
Innate. Homosexuality is naturally repulsive.
And it is not phobia. It is a feeling of hate and repulsiveness. Phobia is irrational fear. Its not about fear, its about the former mentioned emotions.
I have written things more than once towards other people. A phobia can also mean an aversion.
Did you see that in a dictionary? Aversion of the thing they fear of course, but it remains a fear, an irrational one. And it is not the case here I am saying. Its hatred and disgust, and it is something which you don't learn. It is instinctive. What you can learn however is to override your instincts and natural reaction towards something repulsive and disgusting. Which is what the pussy leaders in our societies encourage the herd to do. Until it will one day backfire. Because some things are plain to see and you cannot change them. I'd rather uphold nature's laws than this crap.
Healthy animals in a heard tend to avoid the sick. Often they are left behind to be picked off by the lions.
To be honest I feel like it’s learned. I don’t personally believe that one can be “born” to be a certain way because biologically speaking, we’re supposed to reproduce.
it's learned - bigots pass on their bigoted teachings to their children and the problem of prejudice and discrimination amplifies causing misery for those on the receiving end.
Some of both. A gay guy is different and you don't bond over checking some girl out.
Homosexuality is not natural. Homophobia is natural.
It's a combination of both. Instinctive and cultural.
definitely learn cause we get internalized homophobia especially by society.
It is innate. Because it is a violation of the natural order, seeing two men kissing, for example, typically gives the same response as you were shown maggots.
There is something in the male psyche that finds male homosexuality repugnant.
I just don’t know why they care so much about it.
Most definitely learned because people have gotten stupid
Homophobia is learned
Homosexuality is innate
It’s learned. Nobody is born homophobic
Maybe a little of both, but more learned
Homophobia is not a thing.
Absolutely learned. Everyone knows this
I believe homophobia doesn't exist
No one is born with biases
it's god's will
Probably 75-85% learned.
Learned. You’re not born to dislike someone
Definitely learned.
Learned.
both
Learned
Always learned
Innate
