He does it to secure oil sources for US industry, even though it's not the cheapest available oil. Unintended side effect is that new infrastructure projects which are necessary after decades of decay and oil embargo cancellation can have positive effect for people in Venezuela. But there is high risk of a bloody civil war, since regimes established by US don't have high reputation by their own people. See Iraq or Afghanistan.
It's difficult to say what happens there.

That causes havoc in middle east over time... unless they have diversified better. It cramps Canada. The solution to low oil prices is lower investment... so companies will cut back elsewhere... probably in USA. They could go negative in the futures contracts with oil supply again if they pump too much. FREE oil... lol, when it's miles deep.

@888thegreat of interesting note is the recent Bi#@# sessions between South American countries where they decried the attack, a legit complaint. But part of that was the Columbia president asking for cooperation in dealing with the cocaine traffickers with the Venezualian leader, Rodriguez. That speaks volumes the movement created as Trump applies pressure.

They don't like it, but are being forced to make chances and deal with these issues... which I doubt they can successfully as it cuts their $ line. But it's being forced, only way they change.
