Interesting question, isn't it? For what it's worth, I accepted all of the unprecedented economic and social damage the COVID lockdowns caused because the lockdowns saved lives. And to throw another caveat into the question, deporting an illegal immigrant who otherwise would have killed an American doesn't save a life if the same illegal immigrant kills someone in another country once deported.

If saving lives is the most important thing, then you should support the disbanding of ICE.

Illegal immigrants who commit crimes in the US are being tried here. If they are wanted for crimes in their home country or another country, that is where they are sent to face justice. We’re not just sending killers away to reoffend somewhere else with impunity. It’s simply a matter of which justice system they will face.
It appears that in order to feel like they’re getting good numbers, they’re tracking down law abiding immigrants whose documents are not in order. Keeping them here to square their process and sending them back to learn that there are consequences for entitlement, laziness or apathy have the exact same effect on the death toll.
Therefore, letting ICE do their jobs to the best of their ability is the best way to save lives going forward. The ONLY LEA that disbanding or defunding it would save lives is the ATF. The only US agency more corrupt and power mad than the ATF is the IRS. The IRS just isn’t killing people… yet.
Let’s not forget that the Biden administration hired thousands of enforcement officers and bought tens of thousands of automatic rifles and millions of rounds of ammunition for the IRS. Don’t think for one second that as soon as we elect another democrat president that IRS won’t be storming our homes and businesses to teach us to “have a different relationship with property”.

How about cooperation between local government and ICE, you know, like it's been done for fucking years! ICE has been right down the road from me enforcing immigration LAWS with no problems. Yes, there was protesting but the agents weren't being attacked. They did their job and moved on. Once again, ICE isn't doing anything different, it's the left that has gone completely mental.
