The Knoxville Area is my hometown, and I have lived here most of my life. It has radically transformed here in the past 10-15 years alone, and it is incredibly heartbreaking.

We have seen a rapid influx of Northerners, Californians, and foreign nationals. I went with my wife to a Japanese buffet for our Valentines Day date, and it was almost unrecognizable with all the minorities.

This is my hometown. I was born here, grew up here, and have lived here more than 80% of my life. I have every justification to be pissed right now. It is all about familiarity, and with my hometown being so predominantly white at one point that it was an anomaly to have a black or Asian kid in my class, I can definitely sense the change around me. I don't even want to leave the house anymore, it is so fucking depressing. The traffic is horrible and our infrastructure is not keeping pace. When I had a kidney stone a year ago, I was placed out in the lobby in my underwear screaming in pain. I am sure longtime locals here are fuming right now, and some of them I have spoken to are pissed.

And regarding Cartman, he is what makes the show great. He is also right in many cases, much to the disliking of those around him.

Instead of complaining about the demographic changes where you live (and they are occurring everywhere), look at these changes as opportunities to learn and experience and enjoy new things.

For instance, you just said you wanted to take your wife to a Japanese buffet. Who do you think created that Japanese buffet or brought it to Knoxville? Well, it wasn't the French or Billy Joe Jim Bob from Bristol... It was Japanese people who came to America. And Americans who were willing to try new things decided they liked Japanese food. And so Japanese food became successful here in the US and people love to eat it over much of America... including you and your wife.

Now, if this was 70 years ago and you had this attitude that you currently have, you'd be whining about these Japanese "minorities" and how they are changing things in Knoxville... that it's not the Knoxville you grew up with...

Yet, instead, it's 2026... These Japanese immigrants (or their descendants) have been members of your community for a while - likely since before you were born. To you, they've always been a part of your community. (Not so, of course, for the version of you 70 years ago.) And, what those Japanese people have done in contributing to your community is something you enjoy... so much so, you were going to spend money on it.
