I've never been there, don't think I will ever be there, but just using common sense I believe it is likely possible and true that the photos are from Iraq. It is a vast area and like the US is a vast area and just look at all the different landscapes we have and we know many different religions are in place here.

What many don't know is that these old Muslim countries have very old Church that are still active, and protective by their government.

Yes, I would. A good friend of mine is originally from Iran, which neighbours Iraq, and I've seen plenty of photos from that region of the world.

While it is from different mountains, the euphrates and Tigris are fed by snow melt. That doesn't gel with our mental image as well.
