Why do people obsess over status, luxury and ego in real life?

Since my childhood i was into:
PlayStation games, coding, English, documentaries, being a good person, cats, useful things, healthy eating, working out, learning, art, improving yourself etc.

But when i go out, people look so cool, and they always try to show some luxury items or cars, they wear cool clothes, they try to look more egoistic or bigger or better than each other. I never got this pointless competition like we will never die.

Maybe that's why i never got lots of friends or girlfriend all my life. Never got this human nature and greed. Statue and prestige is very important in the society.

People focus on the upper social classes because they hold the most influence and ultimately decide what’s “good” and “bad” about different living aspects. We’ve been doing this for centuries. The only reason “ain’t” isn’t considered a word the same as shan’t and won’t is because lower classes caught on to the word and started using it, and the upper classes immediately began separating themselves by refusing to use that word. Hell, you could even make the argument that a majority of British accents are because of upper class wanting to separate themselves from lower classes. And now you have an entire continent that sounds like that as a baseline accent because the lower classes still wanted the opportunity to connect with the influence of upper classes.

Tribal status being a big shot and bringing big shot energy to the group. Chimp like jungle thinking. You're more like higher civilizations like aincent Greece. There they thought way beyond who had more bananas or who was flashing bid wads of mony and driving a Bentley in modern terms. They studied philosophy and science. Their names are remembered today thousands of years later. Their ideas are still studied.
