It didn't end until 1453 in the east, 40 years before Columbus sailed to America, the last vikings were still in the Americas around the time the Roman Empire ended forever.

It is possible that if the Roman empire continued in his greatest form from 550AD without the mass loss of territory that the industrial revolution would have happened sooner and the Roman empire would have doubled in size. The big problem the Roman empire was having by the time of Marcus Aurelis to Hadrian was population decline caused by pandemics brought on by global trade, famine brought on by natural disasters and climate change, civil wars, wars etc all of which led to economic problems so that they could not easily fund the Roman legions and this weakness encouraged the nomadic peoples on their boarders to invade and take what the Romans had built.

If you consider what the Romans built and look on what survives to day in Spain alone such almost 2000 year old bridges that can support lorries today, 2000 year old giant aquaducts that still function today, water cisterns that still function 2000 years later, sewer systems that still work today. Mines so deep that this mining capability wouldn't be replicated for until the 1800s. The ability to transport and lift large heavy objects that wouldn't be replicated until the 1800s. There's just so much to go into.

Well, I'm guessing that means no Arab Conquest. So the near east would still be Christian and Pagan. Egypt would mostly speak Coptic. Latin would be the main language. .

It would be beautiful. Dripping with carved marble.

There is a great museum in Torino Italy with a ramp you walk around. At the bottom, it starts off with neolithic crap, bits of rock and some carved wooden bowls and spoons. As you walk up you soon hit beautiful stuff carved marble, glass nice metal work, gold coins etc. Absolutely lovely in the Roman era.

Then it all turns to shit again. Back to wooden bowls and spoons. It is only when you get to the 1700's that you start getting to well not good stuff but maybe almost OK stuff. I remember some painted plates that you might not be that embarrassed about having.

Fairly soon after that you exiting the museum without seeing anything of the quality of the Roman era.

So we would have beautiful cities for sure.

Fewer wars but also fewer innovations.

The fall of Rome brought about the dark ages and created generations of illiterate people who died young of disease or constantly fought one another at the behest of religion and monarchs.

It took us a long time to get back to an age of enlightenment.

But just as with the romans, too much evolution only ever leads to destruction

And here we are: destroying each other all over again.

We thank another dark ages is impossible but so did the Romans.

I don't know the roman empire changed a lot over time. First they fed christians to the lions in the coloseum for being infidels and then they became christians later on. So it's hard to say what the world would be like. I think there needs to be some kind of cycle for humanity to thrive. As we see with Trump the U. S. empire is collapsing and it's a good thing. Right now it will cause instability and suffering but in the long run it will be better for humanity, I believe that. So if the Roman Empire somehow still hung on we'd probably be hoping for it to collapse.

That would be interesting. North Africa and the Levant would most likely be Catholic and safer and more civilized. But ALL the pagan sites would've most certainly been destroyed, so it would be kind of boring. The sports world would also be impacted, though I guess each city state could have its own team. But imagine watching gladiator fights and staged navel battles in the Colosseum, as well as modern sports matches! Did they still do those after conversion? Pagan Rome would be much cooler.

Pretty much the same, honestly. Although I guess it depends on whether the Roamn Empire stayed the same size, or kept on expanding and expanding and expanding until it encompassed all of Europe, North and South America, Australia, and maybe parts of Asia.

Maybe we would still watch gladiatorial combats in the arena and put a bet on gladiators according to their rate of success in killing slavery might still exist but even slaves would have some certain rights to meet the demands of the modern society We would see men wearing skirts on the streets and so on

It would be similar in many ways. Hard to say with the advent of Islam in the middle east or the Persian Empires that rose and fell during that time. You might see a Europe more radically unified if not by language or culture then by shared loyalty to the Empire. The truth of the matter is it was replaced and emulated because of the strength it once had, at least in my reading of history.

Might be huge changes in regard to discovering the Americas etc.

At its height, the Roman Empire was literally the largest it could be. There was no reasonable way, with the technology at that time, to spread. News from the far reaches of the Empire would reach Rome long after the conflict had ended or gotten too far out of hand to easily remedy and then take just as long to send an adequate response. With modern technology, if Rome still had the advantages, they had then, I'm pretty sure they could take over the world (sans Antarctica).

Islam would be MUCH SMALLER if it existed at all. Christianity had conquered Rome long before it fell. The question is how much of a role would Rome take in actively trying to suppress Islam vs. just tolerating it.
