Let's use Elon Musk as an example. He'd poured most of his money into SpaceX and Tesla. SpaceX's first 3 rockers failed to reach orbit, and they were basically out of money. And Tesla was trying to build the original Tesla Roadsters and encountered a lot of problems and had also ran out of money.

Elon had $20M remaining to his name. $20M, he estimated, would give either company a 40% chance of success, with the other going bankrupt. $10M might give each company a less-than 10% chance of success, meaning he was likely to lose everything. But he invested $10M into each company.

That allowed SpaceX to build and launch one more rocket. It achieved orbit and thus qualified for government business.

Tesla was able to build enough cars to avoid bankruptcy by just one day.

Had Elon not been willing to risk personal ruin, neither company would even exist today.

Most self-made billionaires have similar stories. Amazon lost money for a decade and many people tried to force them into bankruptcy. Oracle came close several times. Microsoft also was close to being crushed several times.

All of these companies have employed hundreds of thousands of people, and generated trillions in market activity that the government was able to tax.

Yes, they do shady things and need a certain amount of oversight, but they are still the backbone of the economy and the tax base, so treating them like the enemy is a horrible strategy for government, and for the people.

you can't do it working a job. starting a business, lying to people about when your AI riving car will drive itself, or fibbing and posturing to people about a drug patent... selling before it implodes, like Ramaswammy, etc etc... an make a lot of doh. Can sometimes do it selling good solid products, like apple did by patenting and controlling. Or even coka cola... flavored sugar water that rots teeth, creating billions for the medical/dental community. Look at all those expensive cars sold to such people... billions.

Oh she's right and wrong of course. But selling bubble teas in a pagoda... um, probably not a billion.

The government is simply required to collect our tax dollars to fund the many amenities in the United States that it spends its money on such as infrastructure, police, fire department, paramedics, the United States Postal Service, social security, etc. If the government fails to collect our money in some fashion, then the country call suffer an economic downturn that can financially hurt people that reside in the country. As for AOC's claim that people can't "earn" a billion dollars, I disagree. Albeit I disagree with people being allowed to be billionaires, people can indeed earn a billion dollars if they create a good or service highly demanded by the public. For example, the developers of A. I. can easily earn billions of dollars based on the large amount of people that are willing to pay to use A. I. However, as for whether or not billionaires should be allowed to accumulate such wealth without being heavily taxed is a different story.

AOC does into have a grasp of basic economics. She has not filed a single bill in congress and chased Amazon out of her district along with thousands of good paying jobs. I give her credit for having the work ethic to knock on thousands of doors to get herself elected but she is probably one of the stupidest people in Americs.
