I don't know. If you've got three children at your feet and are living out of home, then I think it's fair to say you've grown up. Some people never grow up.

If I had to pick a number I would say later 20s, maybe 30.

I think it just depends on the person. At 18, my husband was more of an adult than a lot of people in their twenties. And people treated him accordingly. Not so much with our brothers lol But yes a lot of people today have a prolonged childhood. At the same time, though, after someone turns 18 I am going to start expecting more out of them and no longer be accepting excuses like I would out of a child.

Not a kid in the literal sense, but not fully mature either in a way that truly understands life. A person only really starts to deeply understand life after 35, when they’ve had enough real experience, responsibility, and time to see how things actually work.

Yes, young people today have protracted adolescences. I was working full time when I was 17 solving my own adult problems and was married at 25 and had my first child and bought my first house the same year. People are deferring getting married and having kids until later in life.

When I argue with Americans on the topic though, they seem locked in on this magical number of 18 making a child, despite 16 being legal in many of their states. It's not that big of a jump to say 25 and below is basically a mental retard in comparison AKA a child.

MHO's and Superb Opinion is already picked, I just find this topic really interesting. Like what should we consider a child, why the magical age of 18 or 16... or when I was in Japan it was even 13? Why do we pick these random ages for substance abuse as well... Why do we push certain responsibilities and then restrict their personal choices? Not arguing against it, just would have a lot of questions.

Personally I think an intelligence test should determine everything... including voting. I've met full grown adults that shouldn't be drinking or having sex, what do we do about those people?

By the time you're 17 you should already be almost an adult. You should have some level of self awareness, able to hold a job for longer than a few months. Cook and clean for yourself and be able to manage your time somewhat effectively.

Yes, some people it takes longer. Maybe not because there's anything wrong with them. In most cases, it's their environment. But we have to stop lowering the bar to the bottom 20% of society.

Yes, I am a child. When I was younger I thought getting older something would happen and I would “feel” older.. but I never did, and I don’t believe I ever will. Perhaps aging is just remaining young at heart in a body that slowly dies. Now I am sad. :(

This is kinda dumb. People used to have sex way younger then we do today. I get people aren't as mature as they used to be and the life expectancy is higher now, but if you're still a child by 25 how long do you have left before your fertility takes a massive dive (women in particular).

Child indicates that someone is a literal minor, and cannot make decisions for themselves. "Kid" under certain contexts just indicates that the said person is young, and not very experienced in life. But they could be considered an adult legally.

Yeah, maybe the age of becoming an adult shifted because the world's population is getting older. But my dad at 21 was already married, running shops, and owned a house and a car. I don't have that yet since education takes forever now, but that doesn't make me a kid.
