Does China rising and taking the wheel kinda scare you?

When people think of the US, they don’t immediately think of figures like Washington, or Abraham Lincoln — they think of the Statue of Liberty. It’s the land of freedom. The focus isn’t really on one person ruling everything, but on elevating an abstract ideal. It presents itself as the champion of democracy.

Back then, Western countries thought that if you bring market economics, capitalism, investment, and trade into a society, democracy would naturally follow. So they opened up to China. A lot of factories got moved across the Pacific too because of cheap labor. But in the end, what came out was a state that never really gave up its authoritarian side, yet somehow became advanced enough to challenge the West technologically.

Do you ever worry that we might end up losing our freedoms? Like political executions, authoritarian rule, being monitored 24/7, all that kinda stuff?

China domestically has a solid base but internationally they are a mess as bad as don. China was gunning for a modern day silk road by land and sea throwing money internationally that was concerning 10/15 years ago but got cheap and greedy giving money away at first then trying to extort payment afterwards that pissed away all soft geopolitical power.

Now it's a whole mess and wasted potential so they are regrouping and focus on Taiwan. Same way Russia and Ukraine is going. same way usa and Iran war is going flinging a lot of mud but going nowhere fast.

By China holding back its ego drive to hunt it's white whale, it's pushing farther ahead on the geopolitical power scale as the powers now are stalling out fighting it's egos.

It takes a lot of god things to build something up but one mistake to topple it down. There really compelling good thing about China but it's not actively sabotaging itself. That's something but it does take more to be a super power on the global stage.

always a reality since we gave so much to China since 1970's, and they worked hard to achieve.

They think different, they are not about freedom, they are about China. China is Chinese.

That's a different mentality...

But they are generally not ones to attack others and stay out of conflict. they want business and wealth.

China isn’t taking the wheel. The GDP gap between the countries is actually expanding as the US pulls ahead. And that is with the US having almost a billion people less than China.

They can produce a lot of things quickly and cheaply but pay environmentally the way they do it. They are a regional military power and can’t even take an island right off of their own coast.

not really. i mean the usa has death sentence just like china has. so government kills people in the usa as well. and since laws are a result of the political process, you could view death sentence as politically motivated killings.

Yes, I worry about losing our freedoms a lot, but I think the authors of this kind of problem are going to be Trump and the Republicans and not the Chinese.
