Why is political correctness so trendy nowadays if I’m not hateful?

That is a good question. People seemed offended by anything just to be offended at something. I think much of this is centered in Marxist and woke ideologies. This is where we defend the perceived weaker party regardless of cause. You will notice they are almost never offended when it involves a figure that is perceived as in power.

Thing is the exact sort of person you describe will be slandered as all the labels you just named. You will have to look past that since its a silencing tactic from the other side. Usually you then find they are really nice people.

Both right and left have become more extreme (in opposite directions of course). Which leaves centre- right and centre- left voters feeling some what homeless.

Mostly the change has been the extreme left getting more of the vote. Which makes the centre available for the picking or the more extreme right depending on the reaction of the Conservative party. The conservative party can swoop in to capture more of the centre but that leaves it's far right base vulnerable to capture. If it moves to the far right it risks capture of that base.

It is easier to illustrate this with the Left in that they believe that you cannot define what a woman is and have changed Mother on birth certificates to Birthing Parent in a pretense that an XY could give birth.

In Australia that means Labor must become more extreme left because otherwise Greens will pick up the extreme Left. That is OK so long as the Green percentage of vote is under 15% cause Labor will pick those up with our preference voting system. But once the Green vote rises to 20% it is getting pretty close to the bone if the Coalition preferences Greens above Labor. Potentially Greens could go from 20% to 50%+ if that is case and leapfrog over Labor in enough seats to matter.

So the sensible course for Labor is to be more extreme to pull back the Greens to be at the top of the progressive vote. In doing so they are losing the conservative working class vote.

The Coalition has similar problems it needs to keep the right vote but but be attractive enough to pick up the 'doctors wife' vote which was scavenge by they Teal vote last time. .

One Nation is scavenging the sensible centre vote. Both Coalition & Labor has to get one more primary vote than One Nation respectively and the greens respectively because that means they will pick up the Green and one Nation votes.

How long do you think Albanese will last? Will Labor roll him in if the polls continue to be in the 20's? That is the modern way now.

Its like Plato's Allegory of the Cave. To choose and experience a better brighter world is life changing and you want to share that experience. The tragedy is you can't force people to choose that path and ultimately will outright reject any attempts of being dragged out of the cave or woke.

It’s not really. The majority of the social media industry is run by tech companies controlled by leftist nutjobs. So the more you expose yourself to social media and looney liberals, the more you tend to think PC is “trendy”. It’s not. It’s a minority perspective portrayed to be the majority by people with the power to do so. Go out into the real world and interact with real people. Most people just don’t care as long as you’re not hateful and ignorant. I’ve met ONE person in the last three decades who actually needed common sense guidelines for not being a completely objectionable douche.

cause it's easier to pretend to be virtuous than actually be virtuous. You can just do the minimum effort and repeat after the dumb shit everyone says. You won't rock the boat and everyone will think you're a good person. Actually questioning things, rocking the boat is uncomfortable. So people just avoid it. And in fact people will attack anyone who will try to question their way, cause they see it as an attack on their comfort zone and you quickly see how angry they get if you threaten to drag them out of that comfort zone by questioning their virtue.

Also another aspect is that labeling has sort of abolished thinking. Just label anything you disagree with "alt right" or "extremist". You don't actually need to argue that. Just say it and people will stay silent. It's very effective. People don't have the time or the kognitive capacity to actually critically think about it.

Enjoying something doesn't mean automatically I agree with that. I watch some left leaning comedy show without having left leaning opinions in most things.
Polarized radicals are like "you're with us or against us" no matter from what spectrum end they come from. Their strategy is intimidation and when you watch something they don't agree with, you're against them in their perception even if you share some ideas of their ideology.

Most people don't care about political correct, only a few actually do and most are online for appearances only. You fetch their private dm's throughout you'll find some very non-politically correct talk because people don't filter themselves to be like that naturally.
Honestly if one does not they're doing some next extreme level of acting to the point of a psychopath who actively monitors it cause they don't want anyone to know they're a psychopath.
