It started as early as the 1920's, a time of prosperity. But it really hit after ww2. America emerged as the world power and since Europe's economy was smashed and America's homeland lay untouched. Our industry was in a unique position to export to the world. As a result that came from that gave birth to levittown which was the template for the rest of the nation. From bubble to burst this same notion has just been reconstituted each time. It's become synonymous with the American dream. And it's congruent with raising a family so it just fits. A house in the suburbs typically has lower crime rate than an apt. in the city.
When they started to lose the ability to buy a lot of things outright. I don't mind paying a monthly subscription fee for something like the Microsoft Professional Suite. I just also want the option to pay one full price for the software.
I didn't know there was a mass movement against renting "movies" or renting from a "library." I rent movies off my cable, which I'm sure more than half America does! I guess I should ask you, WTF are you trying to ask?

Because I won't make anyone else rich after ten years. I'll be saving a shit load of money that I can invest in MY home or other things.
Wtf are you talking about
I think you answered your own question according to your update.
What?
I didn't know there was a mass movement against renting "movies" or renting from a "library." I rent movies off my cable, which I'm sure more than half America does! I guess I should ask you, WTF are you trying to ask?
Everyone is complaining about physical and digital and owning stuff
Lol, owning has always been the human obsession. Having no one else's say in your matters is the epitome of owning anything.
To be the owner and to rent to other is the retirement plan.
Huh imagine wanting to own the things I buy. Such a crazy notion.
I miss going to Blockbuster video/ You never knew what you would find.
Some media is something that you want to just you want use once or twice and you don't necessarily need or want to own it.
Because of capitalism rising
Because owning is a fundamental human experience.
