No, they are not the same nation. Kurds were already living in the region before the Turks arrived in Anatolia. They didn't have a single independent nation-state, though. Most Kurdish communities lived as tribes or local emirates under larger empires. Kurdish is an Iranian language and is closely related to Persian. They also never had a long lasting state made up only of Kurds.
Turks and Kurds first came into significant contact around the 10th century. Back then, nationalism wasn't even a concept. After living side by side for about a thousand years, it's natural that they developed strong historical and cultural ties. At this point, the two peoples have shared so much history that living together has become a normal part of that history.

Kurds are kurds and turks are turks, plus the kurds are spread in a couple of countries, they don't have one country of origin like turks who belongs to Turkey...
