Those cameras not only make a face recognition and create movement profiles it's probably illegal but collect ID and MAC of Bluetooth and WLAN devices around them while sending faked login request and connection invitations. This is definitely illegal even in US.
    Destroying something illegal isn't illegal.

But what if they aren't illegal? If they are legal, would you agree that destroying them is wrong?

So your neighbour adds an unapproved extension to their house and you get to burn it down?

Errr... that's not how the law works.

I would think existing laws already cover the destruction of public property. At least in the US I think that's true. But that's a whole different question from government surveillance of the general population and privacy laws. We already have private corporations collecting and selling everything we say in our homes, in our cars, where we go, how long we stay, what we buy, what websites we visit, etc. etc. etc.

    • Where does this all stop?
    • How much do we tolerate corporate and government espionage?
    • How much if any control over our laws do the people have vs corporations? Pssssst... the answer is near zero.

Flock cameras are from an Orwell 1984 playbook nightmare. They are part of a mass surveillance network threatening our civil liberties and an invasion of our privacy. I am surprised there is not mass civil unrest and more destruction of these devices.

This is shit you would expect in authoritarian regimes and communist dictatorships like China, not the United States.

Like I said, I am shocked there is not more uproar and pitch forks over this.

To me, if it were turned on for use only when police needed to track a specific suspect, fine.

They run here 24/7 and log data no matter who you are or what you’re doing.

And the cops subscribe to it since its owned and aggregated by a private company, which can and has been searched and abused already.

Exactly. If it were used for crime only, that would be one thing. They catalog everyone, criminal or not.

And sell the data to anyone willing to buy it.

Yes, it should be a crime to cover flock cameras. Covering them is a half a$$ job and should not be tolerated. If your going to do the job, do it right and completely destroy those unconstitutional cameras. So yes, it should be a crime for covering flock cameras, but not a crime for destroying them.

Probably. Property damage. But it should be illegal for anyone but the government to manage the data, and for them to detect electronic devices without anyone knowing.

Covering them might stop the cameras, but they record things like Bluetooth, too. i. e. your phones.

No, I honest to God believe they should all go away.

Legally it's a crime, don't get me wrong. So this is a situation where my beliefs are at odds with the law.

Destruction of property is a crime & if you destroy or cover a flock camera & get caught good luck.

Don't know what that is but if it's someone else's property, then obviously it's a crime to destroy them, whether you like them or not.

It is. Don't saw them down with those cordless saws you get from Home Depot or burn the cameras out with green lasers.
