What she did is wrong. That much is clear.

Legally though, I don't think the prosecution proved, beyond a reasonable doubt, that she was fully aware of what she was doing when she killed her young children and aware that it was wrong, which is what the Commonwealth of Massachusetts law requires, the reverse of what most other states requiring the defense to prove she had mental issues.

I personally think the jury will not reach a decision, a hung jury will be declared, and the Commonwealth will not retry the case. This will have Lindsay Clancy left in a mental institution for a long time, essentially maintaining the status quo.

Justice period. This is no different than any other such cases. This was premeditated regardless. You excuse her, you set a dangerous precedent. Cases like Charles Mansion, Jeffrey Dahmer all become questioned. Where is the line drawn?

The defenses job is to instill doubt. They have used the media coverage to do just that.

If she doesn't get life in prison, she should never be allowed near or around child again. Her nursing license will likely be taken.

Personally, i think she should get life in prison just due to the planning she did to kill those kids. This wasn't a random act.

I think she should face justice. It's not the ex husband's fault and she did it. The only thing here is: should she receive leniency because she was looking for help and had post partum depression. The only thing I think we as a society have to think about: 1. She did show premeditation. 2. If we dub her as insane, what will become of other similar cases? What about ones with men? This is the actual problem we are facing - not whether she did it or not. I do empathize with her on some level. I have sisters who had children, who lost children. It's very sad to see. However, she did show premeditation. I think her being insane would make more sense if she did it on a whim.

I think she was suffering psychosis from post partum depression. It seems that she wasn't getting enough help or attention from her spouse, friends or family. When someone is severely depressed, it's usually obvious.

The loss of her children, divorce from her husband and being paralyzed seem to be punishment enough for a lifetime. Maybe require that she is sentenced to psychiatric treatment and community service for a reasonable period of time.

@Taranis_Thunor I"ve never heard of men raping women because they were hearing voices telling them to rape or having hallucinations that the women were succubi asking them to rape them. 99% of women have agency over their actions. But there is a serious connection of loss of the hormonal state of pregnancy causing such a hormone loss that could lead to severe depression that leads to psychosis.

It did not happen to me after my son was born or to anyone I know. Doesn't mean it does not happen in some RARE cases. Who kills all their children? You can be annoyed by them, but only in rare cases does this happen. Men and women do it. I think you have to be crazed to do so. I don't know what justice in such a case looks like. Some kind of incarceration and psychiatric care.

The same should be true for rapists. Who aren't hearing voices or hallucinating. And some of them may have some kind of psychosis too. We've not heard of it though...

People who kill people who've done them little to no wrong, esp. children, or who kill exes, are consumed by unreasonable emotions. Could be psychosis, anger. I'm no psychiatrist. But I suspect this might be the rare case.

And yes men, especially teenagers, absolutely can have a voice in their head if they had schizophrenia but there's never just a 1 time voice. She might've looked up how to kill her children quickly and painlessly. That was what the defense stated. In a psychotic state, someone could do so, thinking they're performing something that needed to be done.

It's a weird case. But it is ONE case. All women cannot be judged by this one person. Just as all men are not judged by the majority of serial killers and rapists who are males, and the majority of serial shooters. Should we take away men's rights because of them? That's absurd.

Isn't it interesting how it was never an issue for punishing men who commit these crimes. She didn't just get mad and kill someone spur of the moment.
