Americans, what do you identify as?

I chanced upon the map shown, which highlights where Spanish is the majority language, but what I noticed is just how much each state is broken up into smaller parts. In the UK, we'd call these counties or regions. I'm not sure what you call them.

In the UK, some people refer to themselves as British, others prefer to use English, Welsh, Scottish, or Irish. But many break it down further to county level, e. g, Yorkshireman, Cornish, etc, reflecting the original kingdoms. Generally seeing themselves as British, just better.
