Is global warming really getting worse, despite recent cold snaps?

It has done nothing but rain the entire summer where I am, about 80%. In the states, the weather has been the same in many regions. We had a tornado warning some weeks back where I am. Huge global chunks of ice from the Arctic are coming down from the north into places like Tibet. Wildfires in Ontario, Canada, sent smoky air down into our state (it's close to my state) not too long ago. People have died in Europe and in Asia because of extreme heat. Floods have claimed the lives of 8 people in Tokyo, Japan after it rained heavily for one hour-- the most it had rained in 2 months. And 2700 cars were ruined in those floods in Chiba, Japan, and that's not a typo.

And what prompted me to write this question, is someone who wrote that global warming is a myth, because in 2021 Egypt and the Mediterranean were experiencing cold and snow that it had not gotten since 5 or 10 years ago. So he thinks that this sudden cold shoots the idea of global warming down; in other words--he thinks global warming is the planet getting hotter, and nothing else. Understand that the planet getting colder in places that never got cold as well as snow--is also a sign of global warming. We have had about 3 polar vortexes in my area last year. They normally come once every 5 or 6 years. That is, extremely low temperatures, enough for you to get frostbite from being outside for 10 minutes or so, were happening. Snow is now happening in places like Florida and Texas.

Please do your research and know this is not a hoax, and it isn't coming from a cult. I guess the orange man in the Whitehouse, who also doesn't believe in science, has those skeptics believing it is.

Something you should keep in mind is that the global average temperature is calculated based on temperature samples all over the world, which does not mean some extreme cold episodes will not occur in some places.

In my opinion, when it's cold somewhere, it must be warm somewhere else, but the global warming we're facing means globally, or on average if you prefer, a little more warmth slowly occuring little by little over time.

Living in a town in Belgium (Europe), I noticed since a few years that some plants in my garden stay alive in winter, while about 10 years ago they would have perished because of temperatures below freezing point, the latter having even not occured at all last winter at my place. I can see with my eyes the slow general warming up.

I guess you heard and saw images about the incredible high temperatures of this summer all over many places in the world, resulting in so many wildfires?

Over the course of the last several years, I noticed that February was getting warmer and warmer, very different from before, where it was the coldest month of the year. February is feeling more like March, with warm temperatures and a lot of wind, and March is becoming like April. Yes, I have noticed the high temperatures that create the wildfires, especially in drier areas like Los Angeles. But talk to someone who doesn't believe there is such a thing; they will say that it's the fault of Californians who aren't taking care of the land. They're in total denial and call this a conspiracy theory tactic to scare people.

Nothing we can do with liars and people of bad will, and concerning those genuinely not "believing" the phenomenon of global warming, there is a point where ignorance becomes a sin.

Water temps in the Mediterranean see are 2.5 degrees Celsius warmer this year. That alone is an indication it's all going in the wrong direction.

Sun activity is higher recently and we are living in exosphere of the sun. There is more particles send by sun around the earth, it's even a problem for Satellites and science projects in Orbit.

Usually more sun plasma storms, more highly energetic particles, more energy sent by our central star. Sun has all 11 years energy increase cycles, because sun core rotates faster then outer shell. This disturbs magnet field and causes fluctuation and energy outburst.

CO2 on earth as greenhouse gas has some effect but it's a part of cycle. More CO2 means more CO2 absorption by plankton in ocean, that's why CO2 level has rather low influence. 0.0432% of CO2 in earth atmosphere 2026 instead 0.0350% like it was 100 years back has surely less influence on temperature increase than 2% more sun activity.

The average temp will still be the hottest ever, breaking last year’s record. People get worked up about one storm. It’s been a scorching summer everywhere. It more than made up for it.

We've had 4 extreme heat advisories this year. Also in the 2017 World Series it was over 100 in LA for the first game. The Olympic trials for Tokyo and Paris were so hot in Oregon that they couldn't hold all the track races in the same day because runners in multiple events were in danger of heat stroke. The world is getting hotter overall.

i don't know enough about the interaction of gasses in the atmosphere. like what get's burned, escapes or whatever? do we retain everything in our system? if that was the case then i'd be very worried about global warming.

Well you can look at it this way. The earth is covered by layers of atmospheres, and where we live we breathe, live in it and experience weather of all kinds. Above this layer is one containing the ozone layer, that takes in the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. That has been depleted, thinned, by human created pollution. Without that layer we can get sunburned more easily, and I’m assuming it allows for burning of the earth too in the summers. So things like wildfires are more common especially when it’s very dry. And it’s warming up the polar ice caps, making glaciers melt. We were warned about this decades ago.

right. it actually has to do with everything we've been doing. from industrial gasses down to ocean harvesting. our system is out of balance. so i agree with that. more co2 in the air causes it to be hotter and colder in their rise and fall in temp. we need to figure out better ways of getting rid of co2. it's really not that hard either, but you have to make the effort.

2 comments. Resisting the urge to do any research... 1. Global warming to date is what 2F? The spread of temperatures within a day, between days, between regions, across seasons, hemispheres, etc is massively bigger. 2. Global warming is expected to accompany more water vapour in the air and more energy in the air to fuel extreme weather events.

What do you mean by 2F? In my area it's been very humid, more vapor in the air. Well, research is good. We can compare what the earth looked like in '75 to now. It looks totally different from then.

Books have been written about global warming for years. You may be too young too remember, but Al Gore wrote a famous book about it, warning us back in the 90's or before. The only people who truly know about why it's happening, are the scientists who have studied it for years. you have to plan for the worst, use your brain, and hope for the best. Look at people in Napal. That's just insane to live there, for religious people. Noone should live in those valleys, govts should move them out.

Yes, I mentioned that in my question. That was horrific. I saw footage of it and it was nothing like I've seen before. It's not a scam; it's science. Look at pictures of the earth from 1970, and look at where Brazil would be (as well as the arctic). You can see much of the land has no greenery and the arctic is smaller with less white--ice.
