Anyone who thinks that the world would be better off without guns is dumb as f*ck.
Let’s have a little history lesson to kick things off. The oldest known firearms are less than 800 years old. They’re so ancient that they don’t resemble modern firearms at all. What we might recognize as a precursor to modern firearms didn’t come about for another two centuries.
We have over 5000 years of recorded history, and less than 20% of it includes firearms. We know that wars were waged and crimes were committed for millennia in the absence of firearms. You can go to the jungle right now and watch tribes of chimpanzees fight to the death over territory and resources. So it’s perfectly reasonable to conclude that wars were waged and crimes were committed BEFORE our ancient ancestors started recording their lives. Violence is a fact of life. It just is. No amount of wishful thinking changes that cold, hard fact.

Colion frequently refers to firearms as “the great equalizer”. Guns allow people who are fewer, smaller, slower, weaker and less capable to defend themselves against people who are bigger, stronger, faster, more capable and often in greater numbers.
The latter ALWAYS won historically and this is how “might makes right” was born. Well, now the little guy can be right. Firearms did that.
If you don’t look at the CDC’s own statistics, lemme spoil it for you. On the LOW end, firearms are used defensively over four times more often than they are used offensively in any given year. Low end. The high end estimates might shock you. The highest rates of gun deaths in the US, by a lot, are suicides. Just like war and crime, suicide is a fact of life. People are going to find ways to do it with or without guns. But those of us who live can protect ourselves because of firearms, and no other reason.
The ONLY thing you accomplish by getting rid of guns is returning our species to “might makes right”, and inviting tyranny back into the culture.
So, yeah, that is dumb as f*ck.

Guns are here to stay. How the hell are you going to get rid of all of them besides go door-to-door with the military and force people to give them up at gunpoint? How is a 90 pound woman supposed to defend herself against a 350 pound man? Guns give physically weak people a fighting chance at staying alive against a much stronger attacker. People who think all guns should be taken away from citizens are idiots living in a fantasy land, not in reality. The reality is that there are bad people in this world and without guns they would be able to victimize whoever they want

Guns make it easier to kill people and being what human nature is people will always travel the path of least resistance. If guns were to magically disappear I think the murder rate would drop by a huge margin and people would be less inclined to kill others if they had to put more effort into it. Of course, this is not a realistic scenario but a hypothetical one. The world would be a better place without violence but man is an animal at the end of the day and there is much greed, fear, bigotry, rashness and all that leads to violence.

No, a gun is called the great equalizer. I was home recovering from surgery 5 years ago and the cops show up at my back door. They told me that the house next door was broken into and didn't I see anything. I really did not see anything because most of the time I was in bed. However , it could have been my house that was broken into. If somebody robbed me there was not much I could do in my condition. That was when I decided I needed to arm myself.

No, the weapon of choice would just change, actually the world would be more horrific, as you can see history went from hitting each other with blades and blunt weapons to shooting each other with guns, the only thing that changed was the choice of weapon, you take away guns and we will go right back to melee, I don't think anyone needs a reminder of the cruel methods used before guns.

I have no idea how WW1-WW2 would've gone without guns... and depending on how it did go would change the answer so I don't know. It'd be interesting to see how terrorists would work, cause I assume they'd be building catapults? Would be funny and less effective so I guess that is a win. Bows would be equal to guns I suppose but with bows you have to actually put a lot effort in and bows are less likely to kill.

The world is older than guns.
And it was NOT a better place for it.
There’s 0 reason why all will be will if you removed one item that can cause violence out a million different things.

And if the idea is removing every lethal item then no one would have a car, a cutlery set, or even arms and legs for that matter because that’s all it takes to kill.

I got robbed a few years ago. There were 5 of them. Im a guy that can handle himself in hand to hand but there was no way I could handle 5. I came downstairs with my glock and my shotgun, they had knives and I opened up on them. Got two and the other 3 fled. The boys mothers said their boys never did nothing and were honor students in school.

Yes, it would because people would settle things with their fist like they used to and you can live to fight another day instead of pulling out their guns over a parking Spot dispute. It’s ridiculous shooting somebody over a parking spot and I’ve seen that on the news a lot. But guns are good for home invasion in case somebody breaks in, in the middle of the night and they have a weapon themselves

Guns or firearms? Without guns, just guns, ie everything stops at muskets I think the French rule the world. All firearms, ie everything stops at crossbows I think the British rule the world.
