Given Canada's help on 9/11, how should we feel about US treatment now?

The answer of course is yes: it was the right thing to do to help. That was a terrible day. We're not complete d*cks up north.

25 years ago, as the US closed its airspace following the second hit on the World Trade Center, the small city of Gander, Newfoundland, let all flights bound for the US land in its small airport. It became a logistical and operational nightmare but they pulled it off. As this happened, the events of 9/11 were still unfolding and any of these planes could have been another hijacked aircraft turned into a bomb by Al-Qaeda terrorists.

" As part of Operation Yellow Ribbon, 38 civilian and 4 military flights bound for the United States were ordered to land at [Gander's] airport—more flights than any Canadian airport other than Halifax International. More than 6,600 passengers and airline crew members—equivalent to 66% of the local population at the time—were forced to stay in the Gander area for up to six days until airspace was reopened. Gander received the third highest volume of passengers following Operation Yellow Ribbon, behind Vancouver International Airport, which received 8,500, and Halifax International. Residents of Gander and surrounding communities volunteered to house, feed, and entertain the travellers as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. This was largely because Transport Canada and Nav Canada asked that transatlantic flights avoid diverting to major airports in central Canada, such as Toronto Pearson and Montréal-Dorval". And in contrast, let's remember that trump spent that day trying to use the terrible tragedy to generate some attention for himself as he falsely claimed that he could see people jump down the WTC towers from where he was at the trump tower and that, more importanly, (to him) the trump tower was now the tallest building in NYC follwing the destruction of the WTC towers (that was of course not even close to being true).
