Yes it’s true we were more united back then. I am old enough to remember more optimistic times And no one was making disgusting bullshit excuses for the terrorists like some morons are making for the Oct 7th terrorist attack on Israeli citizens.
But the division started on how to best react to that attack. Afghanistan was sheltering Osama Bin Laden and since the Taliban refused to give him up we justifiably went after him. Few if any mainstream liberals disputed military action in Afghanistan. But then George W. Bush got this extremely stupid idea in his head that he could “establish democracy” in the Middle East by invading Iraq with faulty intelligence (i. e. Saddam had weapons of mass destruction which was a lie)
If the 9/11 attacks didn’t happen then public opinion and congress would of never justified that invasion of Iraq. But Americans felt threatened after 9/11 and the very bad idea of invading Iraq went through. This resulted in a huge widening division in our country.
This paved the way for Obama. While Obama was very talented, eloquent and campaigned on “change” he was actually extremely radical. He was a Trojan horse. It all came out during his second term especially when it came to race/cultural divisions.
This in turn divided America even more and Trump was an answer to people’s frustration. Then Trump was labeled the icon of evil given he is the polar opposite of Obama.
Also one huge aspect of Trump’s first term is how so many women turned on men. Liberal women used to talk and engage with conservative men, even during more serious times like the Iraq war. Now they just scream “Trump supporter!” and won’t have anything to do with them.
This gender division is especially deeply harming America. Single hood rated are at an all time high. That is BAD for mental health for BOTH men and women.

@Tim2nice like I give a shit about what the British think when it comes to American politics.
I am so fed up with you leftist Europeans acting like your opinions are equal or more important then a domestic American’s POV when it comes to f*cking American elections and politics. - 16 d
Bin Laden was on CIA’s payroll his whole life. The 11/9 attacks were planned and executed by the CIA. The Afghanistan and Iraq invasions were illegal and disastrous. And there was no religious extremism in the Middle East before the American government overthrew democratic progressive governments and replaced them with religious dictatorships.

It's gotten worse and people are more divided. Right after 9/11 we were so united, it was awesome. Everyone had American flags flying, no one cared about race or sexuality. Now here we are, divided. Everyone's bedroom and sexual preferences shoved down your throat, every man is a misogynistic pig, everyone is racist. It's really f'in sad

Shit, A LOT.
Believe it or not there was a time where you could go up to the gate and see off the person on the plane. Now, good luck. Most documents were fine for travel, now, it has to be specific documents.
The increased surveillance in airports, and well, everywhere.
There's less enforcement of the separation of powers in the government, by law.
The citations of terrorism to violate basic human rights. Bombing the world. Entrapment.
Accused personae non gratae are doomed to a black pit basically. Doesn't matter if you did it or not. It's all about who the deep state doesn't like.01 Reply- 22 d
No, we weren't as divided as government media would have you think. Not in that way, at least.

Prior to 9/11, we lived in a society that generally felt safe, and we dealt with the occasional unsafe thing. Since 9/11, we've become a fearful society, looking out for the bad things, and rarely feeling safe. It's sad.
We've also given up a lot of our rights since 9/11 ... in the interest of safety. TSA and metal detectors at airports is just one example. They were created to reduce airplane hijackings. In reality, hardening the cockpit door and keeping it closed is tye real readon hijackings today are rare, very rare.

I agree with and concur with much of what has already been said. Airport security has changed, people’s hearts and minds have changed, politics have changed, how we view the world has changed, we gave up a lot of freedom in exchange for security, in many way things have gotten worse, we are indeed more divided and we have lost a lot of our common ground as Americans.

we were not more united... we just had a lot less socials, way slower internet, and phones were not yet so smart to very efficiently show how stupid and divided we truly are, and were... lol

People stopped trusting each other. Stopped believing in things. Stopped caring about each other and instead attack, insult, blame, etc each other.

Increased Airlines security, improved safety measures. More vigilance from passengers. People seem more unified.
