Material independence is just the first step. I am still trying to unfuck my mind from a lazy dickhead father who literally pocketed his children's momey. I remember when i was little, i was debating in my mind, maybe it is better to say bye to our dog than spend money on animal rescue fees tk reclaim it (hundreds of dollars for looking after the dog for 20 minutes) when the dog ran into some stranger's car less than 10 meters off of our property and they drove the dog into the city.
The difference between partner and roommate is sexuality, so, aside from the obvious sexual stuff, the answer is being a good friend. ㅤ
Attraction can bring two people together, but truly liking someone as a person is what makes everyday interactions comfortable. Your answer also piqued my curiosity: do you think your experiences with your father have influenced your current views on money and relationships?
I WAS financially independent but my wife spends money faster than a terminally ill, drunken Democratic sailor.
So, I'd want her to have her shit together in every way imaginable including money.
Haha, I can understand that. 😄 Financial independence is great, but I agree that a good partner should be able to manage their own life and finances too. I think a healthy relationship works best when two independent people choose to build something together, rather than one person depending entirely on the other.
Personality, shared beliefs and interests, and attractiveness 😋🍑
I don't value money like that
