My aunt and uncle have about equal veto power. They get along great. My aunt recycles. My uncle does not. They just each do their own thing. My aunt cares deeply about her dog. My uncle doesn't. Why would anyone "submit" to anyone else? If the guy has the brighter ideas, then that's a good reason to follow the guy's wisdom. Sometimes the woman will have the brighter ideas too, which means she'd be the better idea-maker, apparently.

If the woman is always just agreeing with whatever the guy says, that doesn't sound good to me. If that's not what "submit" means, I don't know what "submit" means, so that's my concern.

Now, if you find a guy who's just usually right about stuff, it's fine to let him take charge. That sounds like a pretty good husband, actually... but just automatically presuming he's always supposed to be in charge because of his sex sounds kind of messed up and demeaning for both the husband and wife.

If the woman really likes that kind of thing, I think that's okay. I definitely don't think that's anything good to view as the default standard though.

And there's no way he's going to be better at everything than she is though, so if she wants to do that, that's just a personal preference and not really anything that's going to apply to women in general, most likely, nor should it.

I've never seen a relationship in which I would describe the woman as "submitting" to her husband in any way that's particularly good. Examples of "Submitting" I've seen were things like my great uncle always driving, despite being probably more mentally slow than his wife in his old age. I've also heard stories of my uncle talking about how his grandfather was blind but him, rather than his wife, being the only one to use a gun.

The only times I've seen "Submitting" being a good thing in relationships has been in specific circumstances in which one partner has more skill than the other. My dad's much better than my mother at figuring out how construction work should go, for example.

I think the only reason why people still say "wives should submit to their husbands" is because it's a religious saying and if it wasn't it'd be obsolete because I don't think it really means much of anything that anyone would have reason to value.

The most health relationships I've seen involve the husband and wife jokingly disagreeing about stuff frequently but trying to meet a common ground. I don't see how submission would typically be better thna that.

yeah, I'd say that is definitely a healthy form of masculinity. That said, my uncle is pretty good in many emergencies, but my aunt is a medical worker, so she'll be better in others. My dad's good at many forms of logical long term planning. My mother tends to be the one who's better at jumping in to do quick thinking though, and that was pretty healthy when my dad got spinal-cancer (He's mostly better now - he can walk again at least, albeit slowly).

I could understand the view of "submitting" to someone just meaning a general leaning toward their ideas about what to do. I can just think of lots of exceptions in which that might not work out well. I think that's fine if that's what the woman wants... but even then, I'm wondering what the solution would be if the husband develops alzheimer's disease or something, and I think there'd be bound to be exceptions when the woman just knows best.

Plus I strongly suspect at least about half of women would not like that.

So I just don't see the idea that women should submit to their husbands as being particularly useful advice for most people.
