Question

In an attempt to save humanity, a group of humans will travel to another world and colonize it.

Because of how far away it is and the limited speed a spaceship can travel, it will take 10,000 years to get there. All participants will be placed in stasis, suspended animation, only to awaken when the ship arrives at the distant world.

You've been chosen to go on the journey.

is this going to be some sort of Avatar situation, and we're just going to mess up an already thriving civilization that has a home there? then no thanks... I don't want to be a colonizer

or...

is this more of an Alien situation, in which so tricky as corporation will send us there as fodder cannon and we'll get messed up by highly intelligent monster parasites and stuff like that? hmm.. I don't think so

but...

if this is going to be more of POPULATE a place that's earth-like, in which we could sure thrive once we adapt and conquer the environment, the elements and the conditions... then maybe yeah, I might be up for that... as long as it is a cooler earth rather than a hot one

It depends on how close to extinction we are. If I'm going to live out my life here as normal then no because being stuck on a lifeless desert of a planet with nothing to do but work and being perpetually pregnant isn't appealing.

But if Earth is on it's final days then my survival instincts will kick in and I'd go.

Yes. Time doesn't really matter in stasis. Will never meet people you know anyway.

What could happen you arrive and there is already human 8000 years old civilization originating earth on your target planet, because humanity developed 2000 years later after start of your starship a warp field drive.

I wouldn't go if it took a min nvm that, the amount of risk, work, lack of entertainment, removal of comforts we have, lack of law and infrastructure, slavery would happen big time, seriously why would I ever do this? Pretty much only benefit to doing this is if you are very ambitious and think you have what it takes to become a leader over there who will happily use any means necessary to control power otherwise you're gonna be the chump underneath working for said person or trying to kill them to get killed.

I'd stay here until the world ends or live on a spaceship if that spaceship could function as a city which would have its own problems but less worse than trying to land on another planet to rebuild society from fresh like... no even with our knowledge I think we'd have to go through a lot of bad history repeating until ya know people on that planet in many generations after establish order we have gained today which that would have no benefit to me long dead.

Stasis is so old school. Too much mass and energy required. I'm taking a different path. Our genome will be transcribed and encoded for reconstruction at the destination. Our minds will be copied and held in storage for insertion in a new flawless body once it has been grown near the end of the journey. The ship will be nearly all engines and fuel with the automation to build 3D printers to create bodies and food at the other end. I might go.

I'd have to know what the world would be like and how safe it would be. If there'd be a 99.9% chance I'd be safe, and when we get to the world there's nothing that's likely to eat me and it'll be reasonably comfortable, I'd strongly consider doing it. In other words I'd strongly consider being willing to give up my current relationships to explore an alien world if it were safe to do so.

Safety has always been a big issue for me though.

This particular experiment is a spectacular failure. If nobody has the sense to do something VERY different, then i don’t care to spread this virus to a new planet.

I don't believe a body will not age or degrade after 10,000 years. You would probably just be a pile of dust as the spaceship would have run out of nutrients to keep someone alive long ago. It's just something made up in science fiction.

No thanks. I wouldn't trust the technology today that put me in stasis for that long, nor would I care to be. Besides, humanity has already fucked up one planet that we know of so why would I think just changing locations would be better? LOL

No. God never intended for us to wander off to other planets for any reason. And since the 2nd Coming will be happening pretty soon, I definitely would NOT want to miss my chance of going to Heaven/New Jerusalem. Because I don't know if those who are OFF planet Earth at that time will be included in the Catching Away.

Its a massive risk. Even if you make it there there's no guarantee that the planet is suitable to live on.
