If you could travel to Mars to help start human settlement, but it was one-way, would you go?

The problem is more complex as you've guarantee you will get there, and that you are not just going there to get buried.
The first invaders to the USA... eh "early pioneers" died as quickly as they came. The change in climate, local hostilities and social problems meant it was only a lucky few who managed to keep alive, get land, a few slaves to work the land, and build something on it.
Mars is that to a factor of 20
No, Mars sucks. The only stuff you'd have is what you bring with you. From Earth. And the cost of taking stuff would be literally astronomical. So it will be horrible and you'll have to spend the rest of your life with the same half dozen people.
@angrycarl That is if you all haven't killed each other on an 8 month journey cooped up in a small capsule. And remember, there is no window to open if someone farts.
No cause we don’t even know what the snack situation would be..
you didn't vote
I’m not voting sorry. Just stopping by for shits and giggles 🤭
It's all shit and giggles until someone shits. 😯😵🤢💩💩💩

Nope. It's just going to be a bunch of gay men up there. Women are not capable of surviving off grid on solar power here on Earth let alone capable of space travel. With full knowledge that a battery bank is low on a rainy day, women will choose to wash their dishes if half of them are clean and half of them are dirty, rather than keep refrigeration on for the next 12 hours to keep food from spoiling. The dishes are dirty now and that's as far as they can plan. When the food spoils the next day they just try to shift responsibility to someone else. It doesn't matter how many times you explain stuff like that to women, they just do what they want anyway and as a result would get everyone killed. They have to have their lights on when they are dead asleep just to waste electricity.
Nope. I probably could cope with the hopelessness of such missions because I don't have much emotions. However I'm not sure if other team member were so strong and would do their tasks as good as possible with the knowledge they can't back to earth.
Psychologically it would be a mission for people who give a sh... but this kind of people won't sacrifice themselves for others. That's why one way mission won't work.
You’d be in the history books without much of a social life that’s an interesting trade-off
it's not like you'd be alone
No l wouldn’t. Because at some point l would need to return to earth. My children would not be able to come with me.
what if you could bring them?
Isn’t possible.
why not?
All l know is that the atmospheric pressure is less than it is on Earth. And Mars gravity is less than that on Earth. So it would be very difficult for a kid born and living on Mars to handle Earth’s atmospheric pressure pushing down on them and Earth’s gravity pulling on them as well. Also, because of a difference in atmospheric pressure and gravity, a child born on Mars wouldn’t look human. Then there is the effects of less gravity and pressure on conception that is unknown.
but your children would have been born on Earth then travel to Mars
Humans are adventures always looking to the unknown. Even here on earth we humans were always advancing toward the unknown with no idea what or who were over the horizon. Now with everything mostly explored with exception of the oceans we look up ward toward the unknown. We know there might be changes made to our bodies to accommodate the rigor of space travel. To go anywhere outside our solar system might mean generational space trave that mean our son and daughters, or even great grandchildren will see the new world not us. What happens to us if we contact a superior race. DO WE NOW BECOME THE NATIVE AMERICANS. But still we march on with plans to expand mankind to the unknown We are wanderers.
No, as I still have living family and friends here. And anyhow, I'd not be sure who'd be limitless (lol) to want to go there anyhow. They'd have to be real loners 😂😆
With no attachments not even a dog lol
I have spent enough time on this rock. Time for a change dying there is the same as here. THE END IS THE END HERE OR THERE.
That’s the idea trip for all those on the planet deeply religious.
Yes, I would but at my time of life I doubt I'd met the medical requirements.
Radiation, unsuitable atmosphere and 'poisonous' soil will force "settlers" to live in a closed tank.
Please send Musk instead.
No, but I have one or two exes that I would HAPPILY volunteer for the mission!
I'd send the Space Nazi there and laugh my ass off And then have the rightful owners of Twitter resume their company.
i mean i'm assuming, there's gonna be a team right? not a solo trip. also is there internet?
Why would I want to build a settlement on a dead planet?
Before my daughter was born I would absolutely take this trip.
to Venus you remember Abbott and Costello right?
Yes, I will be the King of Mars. Muah-ha-ha-ha.
Nah too old
No, it doesn't seem like it would be much fun.
No thank you.
NO And hell no.
No im not interested in the new world.
Why would you want to settle in Mars?
I would definitely go.
i wouldn't
