Why do you need one day of the year to commemorate the dead?

My interpretation of this question is, why do we only remember the birth of a life and the day that heart ceases to beat? We should remember the dead everyday that goes by, for their and our own sake.

Yes its about Halloween, but it is true we seemingly commemorate our loved ones when their birthday passes with an empty seat at the table and when it comes time to mourn their loss at their gravesite, the ashes at home, or looking at an old photograph.

With that energy you have, it is a great point we should honor and remember those that meant a great deal in our lives everyday and pay respects whenever we are able.

but to celebrate the the life of those who departed sooner, can be taxing

and also... to commemorate more properly, there's also a need for gathering, and also the gesture of display and express that sense of community...

I don't, and in a way I find designating a time for remembrance doesn't really work for me somehow. Those who have left my life are remembered when a certain scent floats in the air, or I'm reminded of someone when I'm somewhere and a memory of what we did there creeps in. I'd rather it be more organic myself, but to each their own.

Culturally or within a religion? I'd assume it's so that everyone's hearts and minds can be collectively gathered and directed towards the memories of the love and sacrifices that those who came before us have to each other and to us, and so we can also look around and appreciate the life they gave us.

I don’t like using specific days to do specific things.
One day to appreciate your mom. One for your dad. One day for the birth of Jesus. And so on.


I would rather be consistent all year round.

I don't but going to cemeteries to remember those who are no longer with us is still something I like to do.
