Why do Americans celebrate St. Patricks day?
#StraightedgeMasterRace #StraightedgeAtheist
Ireland has a lot to do with a lot of Americans. :) A lot of us have Irish ancestry.
Irish people, especially those who have family in the U. S., do celebrate the 4th of July. :)
Americans (and a lot of, if not most, people who drink) don't need a reason to drink. 😄
Is it possible (at least for me) to not "celebrate" Ireland and the Irish when hearing Irish music? I don't think so. ;)
True, St. Patrick's Day is a saint's feast day and even though it's supposed to be the day he died, it's also a day to celebrate his (hopefully) going into Heaven - which we believe in because St. Patrick taught us about Jesus and Christianity, another reason to celebrate the dear man. 😇
You may not be religious but you don't seem to be too happy, either. If you were more "religious", maybe you'd be more happy. ;)
St. Patrick's day came to America when Irish people moved (t) here. There's even history about how the traditional meal (for those in America, anyway) changed from ham to corned beef because in Ireland, ham was more readily available, but in America, beef was. The holiday and its traditions have evolved and developed with time and historical changes, as is the case with most holidays. As for the drinking and the rest, I think that's probably just people finding an excuse to get wild and have fun- again, not so different from lots of other holidays.
And it's not just in America that people get wild and drunk on St. Patrick's day.
There is more Irish descent in the US that there are Irish people in Ireland so it's obvious that there're going to celebrate it. As for throwing a big party, well, it's fun. Have you been to Dublin on St Patrick's day? I've been, and it's a huge party, people drink tons of beer.
Well thats sad cause alcohol is for losers.
Well, then be disappointed in both americans AND Irish because Irish people definitely spend time at the pub on st Patrick's day.
I live in USA so I already see drug addict losers and drunkard bastards on tv and in real life.
So you compare people people having fun at a great party to drug addict losers... nothing to do here then
@bombamboum
The fact that you believe that drugs and alcohol are the key to enjoying and having fun proves how naive you are and its quite sad that someone who is older than me has such a narrow minded attitude. For a 23 year old you're quite immature, I am 21 and I am more mature than you and I clearly use something called LOGIC unlike you. People who do drugs and drink alcohol are losers.
I NEVER said that alcohol was the key to a party. I didn't even drink a beer when I was in Dublin on St Patrick's day. You are the one who are assuming things which is pretty sad. Also, you talk about maturity? I didn't see any when you were judging americans about something you knew nothing about
First of all I was born in Africa and in my hometown I grew up in a church called ST PATRICK'S ANGLICAN CHURCH in fact I was baptised there and we celebrated St Patrick's day plus I now live America so jokes on you.
Wel, have you seen how Irish people celebrates St Patrick's day? because I did.
No because I am not from Ireland. And yes I am aware that irish people are hopeless drunkards.
Well, if someone is hopeless here, it's you.
lol keep telling yourself that. Its so sad that society promotes alcohol use rather than rally against it.
I think it's a combination of there being a ton of Irish immigrants and their descendants in the US (seriously you can't swing a stick without hitting one of us) and March needing a holiday since it's in a race with January for Most Depressing Month.
In case you didn't know there is a rather large Irish population in the US as well as Irish descendants. They brought it over to the US and we celebrate with them simple as that. Also Irish who live in the US celebrate the 4th they are Americans so the holidays applies to them as well. Besides everyday is Independence Day not just the 4th.
Okay CM Punk, calm down.
While you are right in that it's a religious holiday for the Irish, and that most Americans use it as an excuse to get shitfaced, there are actually more Irish people in America than in Ireland itself, so they still have the right to celebrate it too.

Americans are an amalgamation of various ethnicities and cultures. Irish immigrants celebrated it and it just became a thing there.
That's what Americans do anyway. Any excuse to drink. They have even less reason to celebrate something like Cinco de Mayo and yet they do.

Just so tired of the appropriation of countries culture lol
Because a lot of Irish immigrated here and a lot of Americans have those roots durrrr -_- why not celebrate? I'm not Irish but hey let's celebrate! :D
I always saw it as an excuse for people to get drunk over here in america. Really nothing more than that because honestly, I don't think a lot of people care over here. (by the way I'm half Irish)
Because celebrating it allows me to be day drinking without shame right now. ✌
people are always looking for an excuse to be drunk basically... damn... :-/
yeah its not obvious who the asker is lol. anyways, I don't think most people even care.
They are WANNABE Irish.
& there are a lot of Irish in America too.
There be a lot of Irish decedents living in America.
It's an excuse to drink and fornicate with strangers.
Lots of Americans have Irish heritage. It's a country of immigrants.
They want an excuse to drink during the day and make fun of Irish culture.
hmm, alright
I don't. lololol
