Is the statistic that 1/3 of Americans don't vote true?

I was thinking about it this way. they only need one 1/3 of the vote to keep the other 2/3 at a 50/50 tie. then they can sway it either way that they want to. But they have to convince you that 1/3 of the population doesn't vote. How do they do that? they have to have false census numbers. They jack up the population to create that 1/3 cushion that they need. So I wonder if every single state has a 1/3 voting issue? Maybe you can tell me?

not sure if it was the past, last federal election, or the one before that...

but the people who did not vote were almost 85 million Americans, so they would have won the popular vote

and there's a key figure to this...

about 72 million of them people who did not vote... they do live in states that really don't matter because they are not swing-states so... even if all 70 million of them had voted, the results would be pretty much the same... the majority would have voted for the one who won anyway, and the few who would have voted against the winner, would not be enough to swing the state

so... this leaves you with a number of around 13 million people who live in Swing-States, now those... could have, maybe, represented a different outcome in the elections

The 66% turnout rate in 2020 was the highest since 1908, and 2024's rate of 64% was the second highest, tied with 1960.
Mid-terms are typically closer to 40%.

There are many people like me who don't think either party represents their interests or who think that elections are a sham.

155M people voted for President in 2024. The population of America is roughly 350M.

According to Ballotpedia, 64.9% of registered voters participated. So the number of registered voters is around 230-235M. We can only speculate how many of the remaining 115-120M are not eligible to vote or never registered.

It's not a country where the democracy is expected to be participated in. Apathy gets to win and supports the status quo. Countries like Australia where it is required to vote (spoiled ballots make a significant portion of returns which goes to show how people give no fux about democracy).

well you and i know that, but most don't. a lot of people know something is wrong but they don't really get the big picture. we have a lot of successful stupid people protecting the boss' status quo. democracy has never been done right in government framework.

Yes, but the thing is the right to vote is also the right not to vote because none of what is offered is worthy of your vote and you shouldn't have to choose the best of 2 bad ones

that hasn't really changed since i've been alive. it's always very high and when they need the votes somehow the find them and those numbers adjust. but someone said below it's never been higher voter turnout than 66%.

Voter turn out in mid-terms is more like 40%. That's interesting. But the number of people who don't vote don't have their votes counted. The only thing that matters is the share of people who do vote. I think your math is a little odd.

the point is that they don't matter. if 1/3 of the population doesn't vote then they won't care to check if they did. that's what they mean when they say, "find the votes", because they can be found.

but this isn't what i'm proposing. i'm saying there are 2 population numbers. one real and one fake. so if 1.5 million people are in a city and all of them vote, then there's still room to change the vote. because they have these made up citizens registered that are the missing 1/3, maybe more? who really checks?
