What do you think will hurt more, a knee to the face or a 50 mph baseball to the face?

I think the trauma is proportionate to the inertia of the object striking the face. While the baseball is travelling at a very high speed, it has relatively low mass. The knee impacts at a much lower speed but may have 200+ lbs behind it. Therefore, I think the knee would hurt worse, but that's a relative comparison. A 50 mph baseball to the face will also hurt like hell!

But here comes the thing: force is mass x acceleration so one has higher mass, second has higher acceleration.. Doesn't it mean that no. Of newtons of force will be same so they will hurt about the same?

If you analysis is correct. . . if the baseball is travelling at a constant speed, it would have no acceleration and, regardless of mass, would have no force.

On a more practical level, I have been hit in the face by a fast pitch softball and I survived that, so I might feel slightly better about surviving the baseball intact.

I’ll be the u popular opinion: definitely the knee. A baseball at 50 mph is going to hurt like hell, leave a mark, maybe a fracture or tooth loss if hit in the right spot. However knees to the head are some of the most damaging strikes in combat sports like MMA or Muay Thai. ‘Cyborg’ Santos had his skull fractured and indented by a knee, and most recently Demetrious Johnson KO’d Adriano Moraes with a knee to the head.

Knee has less acceleration but more mass, baseball has more acceleration but less mass.. Force is mass*acceleration so wouldn't both will hurt the same?

Perhaps initially the sting of a baseball would be more but the long-term effect of a knee is life-changing
