8 Reasons Why It Needs To Stop
Hi guys and girls. Hope all is well!!!!! I was inspired by a post that labeled girls who "dress provocative, show cleavage, and do sexy poses as sluts and/or attention whores". Slut, Whore, B****, etc are all derogatory terms that are thrown around a lot on the internet more so than any other place. I will be posting reasons why individuals on the internet slut shame from a cognitive perspective and why it needs to stop.

I urge you to participate and help promote body positivity and end Slut Shaming.
Let's get started:
Slut is a very common term on social media. The definition of slut is someone who has many casual sex partners. So it is strange that on social media that the term is thrown around like the word b****. This is a derogatory term that is meant to demean another individual. And surprisingly the ones who seem to do it the most are other females to females.
1. Insecurity
Insecure people will find anything wrong with someone else's accolades, appearance, etc to make themselves feel better about their shortcomings. I have never encountered anyone attractive, successful, and content that needed to belittle or label others in an attempt to keep their morals intact.
2. Strong Values
Some individuals have had their values set in place from childhood. Some parents raise their children believing that dressing provocatively, sexy, or taking time to nurture your appearance are all the actions of those who want attention from the opposite sex. Perception is not reality.
3. Poorly Educated
Unfortunately many people lack education. There are some people who think that if you look too sexy you must be a slut. This can also be considered a cognitive distortion. They literally don't know what the definition of "slut" is.
4. Jealous
Sadly, Jealousy is the harsh reality behind the slut shaming attacks. No one who is confident feels the need to belittle or label others. Some people are naturally jealous when they see you doing something they wish they were doing or if you have something they wished they had. It's a lot easier to be jealous and envious than just working to improve oneself.
5. Cognitive Distortions
Overgeneralizations are VERY popular. This means that you have made an outrageous opinion based off of a few encounters or experiences. EVERY individual that dresses provocative or sexy are not whores or sluts. Just because some sluts do dress provocative doesn't mean that anyone who dresses the same is automatically deemed promiscuous. Luckily there are solutions for cognitive distortions.
6. Low Self Esteem
If you were comfortable in your own body you wouldn't need to tear down others.
7. Vindictive
Unfortunately there are some individuals that seek revenge against women who are sexual or open about their Sexuality. We have been deemed as delicate flowers and if you don't fall in line with what society deems as socially acceptable then you will naturally be shunned for it.
8. Haters/Trolls
I am sure this one is self explanatory. They literally have nothing else better to do and will say and do anything to get a reaction.

1. Destroys Self Esteem
Just because someone has no self esteem doesn't mean others need to feel bad about themselves. Body Positivity needs to be promoted at all sizes as long as you're healthy.
2. False Labeling
Labeling can destroy reputations and could potentially end up with you being sued for slander and defamation of character. So be very wary when labeling individuals just because you are triggered or have personal problems. I have heard stories of none sexually active virgins being slut shamed. Like how?!
3. It's Negative
Why be negative. Spread joy, love, and happiness.
4. Maladaptive Behavior
Maladaptive Behaviors can leave you alienated and friendless. Then in turn you use them more and more until you're in a dark place that could potentially be fatal. If you're not familiar with Maladaptive Behaviors please use the references below to learn more.
5. Demonstrates Low Self Esteem And Confidence
Why would someone want to perpetuate the idea that they have low self esteem and no confidence? It's not attractive or desirable and will only worsen their existing Connections and future Connections.
6. It Does Not Promote Body Positivity
In this day and age it is extremely important to promote body Positivity. They are many in the world who are getting black market surgeries, operating on self, and committing suicide simply because they can't stand the way they look. Body Positivity can save a life. So why wouldn't you?
7. Furthering The Rape Culture
This has been trending on the internet as of late. It's he idea that if you dress sexual, provocative, or anything less than a modest nun then you deserve whatever attention you get from the opposite sex. This includes rape. This is the most ridiculous thing ever but it's the reality of the world we live in.
8. You're Shaming Sexuality
We have spent centuries hiding our Sexuality, trying new things, and just being open because society has deemed it as unacceptable and untasteful. Your Sexuality is just that, YOURS!!!!!! Which means you should be free to express it whenever and however you like as long as it's appropriate, tasteful, and done mindfully depending on the audience you have viewing your content.
Author's Note: Perception is not reality. You cannot label a person a slut on the internet if you are not currently keeping count of their casual sexual conquests. I am very versatile with my pictures and I have been a victim of Slut Shaming. I have only had two sexual partners and one was my best friend and the other was my husband. These were not casual hookups and still I am deemed a slut the first time I put up a revealing Picture. It just shows how narrow-minded, insensitive, and immature individuals of this generation have become. I take pride in being able to manage my weight while suffering from Bulimia Nervosa and accepting myself at any size. So what if I want to show off my progress and hard work? How does this affect you? If it does anything besides motivate you then you're a hater period.
