How come people on my Snapchat best friends list don't have a best friend emoji by their name?

Some people on my best friends list don't have an emoji by their name. (One even has the emoji that says I am on their list, but they are not on mine). I don't understand why the kid Dan at the bottom and somebody else lower on my recents have the emoji but are not on my list.
