How come my skin looks worse on camera than it does in real life?

My skin is not problematic nor is it clear. My skin is somewhere in between.
I have pimples and acne scars (the scars will fade eventually) just like everyone else, but I also have a mild skin condition (red, painful spots all over my face). The skin condition is not that bad and my dermatologist and I are working on a temporary solution.

The problem is that for some reason whenever I make a selfie my skin looks worse on camera than it does in real life.
My condition, pimples etc are much more prominent on the picture and I don't understand why that is.
Does anyone know why that is?

Because no camera can beat our amazing eyes!
And ofcourse it depends on the camera quality and light conditions.
Try using some other apps for softening the skin a little bit. (Ex: portrait filter in 'snapseed' app).

The camera LOVES some people, and others... not so much. Today's high definition camera's are capable of picking up the slightest flaws, so don't be alarmed.

Probably the camera is picking up too much red or contrast. Maybe your dermatologist can recommend something gentle for redness or a safe makeup

Are using High Dynamic Range filter? Disable it.
