
My space heater doesn't turn on something came off of it and I don't know what the piece is called can someone tell me what this is?

That looks to me like the part that does dangle, and for a good reason. There is a safety switch that will turn off the heater when it is tipped over. Some heaters use a weighted lever, like the one you are holding, to accomplish the turning off. S
Since it is now loose and clanging around, or was, it's time to get a new heater. The switch is either broken or worn out, and in any event trying to fix something like that could create a fire hazard. Much more better to get a new heater!

Hard to tell from that angle but looks like it could be part of the thermostat. Usually cheaper to buy a new space heater than try to repair it.
