I am going to tell you the best secret to improving in these types of games. In any competitive team game there are 3 major categories that will lead you to success.
1: The mechanics. This is the practical skills such as how to move efficiently, how to aim and how to shoot. These are obviously important and how they can lead you to victory is obvious as well.
2: Game sense. This is your general understanding of the current state of the game. What the current objective is, where the enemies are and where they are not. What the opponents are trying to do, what you should be doing and all these things. With game sense you can predict where enemies are, where they are looking and also how best to exploit that for your own benefit. You do not need to learn how to aim if they are not even looking in your direction of if they can't see you because you flashed or smoked them off.
3: Teamwork. Valorant is a team game. Your ability to communicate and work with your team can turn the game into an easy victory. Cover each others weaknesses, support each others strengths. It can be as simple as giving the sniper rifle to the person who is best at it or as complicated as doing a synchronized plan across the entire map.
I recommend you pick one of these and focus on getting better at that as a starting point. If you want to be better at the mechanics you just need to start practicing. Learn to control the tools you are given and learn to move exactly how you want as efficiently as you can. You should have completely mastered every action your character takes.
If you want to learn game sense you likewise need to learn the game. Learn the how and why of everything. What people do and where people are. Learn what things means and how the game develops through the various phases. A good starting point is a single question that is as useful for newbies as it is for professional players. "What is the most optimal decision I can make?" With all your knowledge of the current match, with all the enemies and friendlies you know of and do not know of as well as the current objectives at hand, what is the most beneficial decision you can do? Are you in the wrong position perhaps and need to move to somewhere that actually accomplishes your goals? Is one of your teammates doing something important or playing well and could do really well if you made sure they were not outflanked? Is there a location where you can sit where they will be unlikely to either hit you or even look in the first place?
The better your game sense the better choices you are able to make but remember that its still possible to lose even if you did everything correctly. Failure is not a sign that what you are doing is fundamentally wrong just as success is not a sign that what you are doing is correct. You need to be able to judge that more objectively if you go down this route.
As for teamwork that requires good communication, good understanding of how people play the game so you can support them and also if you want to get really good you should practice with someone so you can better play together.

Don't move while you shoot, try to pre-aim corners where the enemy might be and move your crosshair to their head my strafing. Don't spray too much, try to burst the head and if you don't hit, let the recoil reset and try again, unless they are very close. Watch how pros play and try to absorb their playstyle.

Misconception:
You ARE getting better.
But everyone else is also getting better.
The real problem is, that you are getting better at a slower pace than everyone else.
In the end, you just have to put in more effort, if you want to keep up with the others.Valorant? Oh right, the overwatch knockoff.
If I'm not mistaken the game itself is fairly fast paced, and requires fairly good tracking. The best advice that I can give is to learn how certain mechanics work, build a personal play style that work s with you and just play or invest in a "tool" that helps with hitting targets.I haven't played Valorant, but there are some things that are true for any game
It sounds like you need to "research" game mechanics.
Maybe asks your coworkers what the things they say mean.
Besides that you can always practice aiming, get to know the maps better, ...I never heard of valorant.
