If I have tinder running on my phone in the background, will the location update whenever I access my phone?

Like not when I open and use the app. But if I didn’t close out of the app entirely so I kept it running in the background, will my location update whenever I use my phone and my phone location updates? I allow access for tinder to use my location

Good question cause I don't know. I don't know which operating system you're on but on Android there is the option to launch a services in the background if you give the permissions to the application. If you simply turn the permission off to launch services in the background you should be safe. However then you will probably also not receive notifications on tinder.
In order to answer your question if they are starting a service which keeps track of your location in the background I would have to see the source code which is not possible since tinder is not publishing anything as far as I am concerned. So you have to trust whatever tinder is saying.
If you're on iOS I assume they have a similar concept where you can start services in the background. However I am by no means an expert on iOS.
